Kisumu Simba roared in Nairobi collecting six points as three Kenya Hockey Union Premiership matches were called off due to bad weather over the weekend.
Kisumu Simba mauled Mombasa Institute 3-1 at Parklands. The match, played on a muddy pitch following consistent drizzle, saw the victors score in the 13th minute through Teddy Ondiek.
They stretched the lead four minutes later when Ravinder Roopra struck with a hard drive. Fredrick Otieno added Kisumu?s third goal in the 50th minute before Austin Otieno pulled one back for Mombasa on the hour mark.
Nbi Simba.1 Ksm Simba.5
Kisumu Simba beat hosts Simba Union Nairobi 5-1 on Saturday. Brian Otieno gave the victors the match opener in the 12th minute.
Ondiek notched a double for Kisumu sounding the boards in the 19th and 43rd minutes. Obed Ototo and Frederick Okello scored Kisumu?s other goals in the 26th and 38th minutes.
Union?s lone goal came in the 38th minute through former international Inderjit Matharu. The results saw the lakeside team jump to the third position with 19 points behind leaders Armed Forces (24) and Kenya Police (23).
Wazalendo..3 M.Institute..0
Wazalendo beat Mombasa Institute 3-0 at Simba Union yesterday.
James Mwangi notched the match opener in the 37th minute after a good combination with Rodgers Ayuya and Goldstein Mamburi.
Mamburi, who is back after being out with an injury, made a triumphant return when he gave Wazalendo the third goal in the 62nd minute.
This came three minutes after Wycliffe Ongoli had sounded the boards for the winners? second goal.
Mombasa are yet to win a match this season. The coastals languish at the bottom of the eight-team table without a point.
Meanwhile, Kenya Police?s bid to topple leaders Armed Forces failed after KHU suspended three matches yesterday due to the poor state of the Parklands Sports Club pitch.
Matches affected are Police v Wazalendo, United States International University-Africa v Blue Eaglets and Parklands v Nairobi Gymkhana.
Meanwhile, KHU has appointed officials to handle national teams for the Africa Cup of Nations slated for October 1-10 in Pretoria, South Africa.
Avtar Singh Sohal is the coach for the men?s team with Michael Omondi in charge of the women?s team.
Parminder Saini "Kake" and Elinah Shivekah will manage the men and women?s team respectively.
Peter Kiruma and Josephine Karani are technical officials.

kisumu field hockey players
I have been living in kisumu for a very loooooong time, and one thing that hurts me alot alot, kisumu city has been blessed with so many good ,i mean very good field hockey players,of both males and females,in fact if one counts the unmber of players that make the national team of kenya, males at one time or another, most of them came from kisumu,i can say that the city has(had)been blessed with good hockey players, but most of them end up to nothing,i wonder why???
Just a handful of them make it to the top, take for examples playes like, peter akatsa, michial omondi, emmanuel oduor, kake, oriso, the late malik mabunde and many more the number is just too much, then we have the likes of Aduda, omondi owino and many of the like whoes talents have all gone to waste, what can we bring out that led to this,is it that kisumu has only one hockey club or what? with the number of hockey players keep on raising up in Kisumu, what can be done to help promote the standard of the game in kisumu and even the whole country at large.I belive that the standard of the game can really go up if the only hockey playing club in kisumu can have a challenge,if only we had one or two more clubs playing the game in kisumu, then the city can be the place to beat not only in kenya but in africa as whole and even the world, the only hockey playing club in kisumu is Kisumu Simbas with this such talents that go to waste can be made of good use,am saying this since i played aginst these fellows during my time at DHT and Aduda was in Kisumu buyz high,i tell you this guy was just something, but there was no grooming up of such talents,in fact kisumu boys had the best players in town and we gave them a ride of there money, since the games were just too tough-to date i belive that Kisumu is the best hockey playing city in Kenya and something has to be done to make good use of these talents,Hockey in kisumu, you would love to see those boys and girls play, but where did they go from here?
