Hyderabad, Oct. 28 (PTI): In the battle between minnows, Kenya overcame Ghana while Kazakhstan beat Nigeria in the women's hockey play-off matches of the Afto-Asian Games here today.
Kenya came up with a good display to down a spirited Ghana 2-1 at the Gachibowli stadium here scoring a goal in each side of the break.
Later in another match of the day, Kazakhstan had a hard time prevailing over Nigeria 2-0.
The two winning teams will now play for 5-6 position while Ghana and Nigeria will battle it out for the last two slots.
India will play Korea while China take on South Africa in the semifinals slated for later in the day.
In the first match, Priscah Nafula Wanyama gave Kenya the lead in the 19th minute before Hellen Chemtai Kiprotich made the score 2-0 seven minutes after the breather.
Though Ghana struck back one in the 64th minute through Abass Ramatu, it was not enough to give them them the win.
Kazakshatan scored through Imangaliyeva Gulnara (31st) and Mikhramova Ologa (38th) in a space of seven minutes for their win.
The final classification matches will be played on Thursday.
