For the first time of brazilian hockey?s history, the Brazilian Hockey Association (ABH) will send an under-17 squad for an international competition. On October 15th to 19th, Brazil will compete at the First "Mercosul Tournament" of indoor hockey, that will take place in Assunção ? Paraguai. Six nations will compete at this tournament: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguai, Peru and Uruguai.
This is the beggining of the ABH?s plan to form elite players that will represent Brazil in the Pan American Games, that will be held in Rio de Janeiro on 2007. The head coach Craig Bell indicated "I believe this is the first important step on our road to prepare a competitive team that will compete at the Pan American Games."
Besides, the ABH?s official plan to develop field hockey in Brazil includes, especially, increase the number of the field hockey players in all over Brazil and create a "high yield national team" to represent Brazil in the international officials tournaments. "
