LAHORE: Former world champions Pakistan will take on Zimbabwe in the opening game of the Afro-Asian Hockey Tournament on October 23 in Hyderabad, India. Pakistan is placed in Pool B of the tournament along with Egypt, India and Zimbabwe. Pool A comprises Ghana, South Korea, Malaysia and South Korea.
According to the draws released by the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) here Friday, Pakistan will face their real test against arch-rivals India on October 27. Match between the two Asian hockey giants will offer a remarkable fight for supremacy. The teams met twice in the Champions Trophy Holland in August and twice again in the Asia Cup in Malaysia last month.
PHF Friday named 16-member Pakistan team to take part in the tournament. Left winger Nadeem ND will lead the side and left half Waseem Ahmad would be his deputy.
Team: Salman Akbrar, Muhammad Qasim, Ali Raza, Zeeshan Ashraf, Tariq Imran, Ghazanfar Ali, Muhammad Saqlain, Waseem Ahmad, Adanan Maqsood, Mudassar Ali Khan, Rehan Butt, Shakeel Abbasi, Muhammad Nadeem, Saleem Khalid, Tariq Azizs and Akhtar Ali.
Team officials: Hassan Sardar (manager), Tahir Zaman (coach), Asif Ahmad Bajwa (assistant coach) and Derk Verder (physiotherapist).
