Astro turf experts from Germany are awaiting official clearance to commence work at the Central Military Command (CMC) hockey Stadium ahead of a proposed four-nation international hockey tournament.

Revealing a sample of astro-turf during a local press conference German coach Gerhard Rach said: "This is the same kind of surface that was used for the Athens Olympics and we need to change the under layer at the CMC ground to prevent the ball from bouncing hard."

Astro turf expert Steib Wulf, who is currently in Dubai, has prepared many hockey turfs in Germany and is awaiting permission from the UAE Olympic Committee to rennovate the CMC stadium which will host teams from India, Pakistan, Malaysia and South Africa in the December tournament.

Ismail Ali Al Banna, President of the UAE HC, has authorised Raza Abidi to enter into an official contract with the UAE Olympic Committee to clear the official paperwork for the event.

Abidi feels that work on the ground could commence from October 10.

Meanwhile details for the Super League hockey tournament to be played at the Dubal turf ground, starting today, were announced at the press meeting held at York International Hotel
The tournament is being organised by the UAE HC in association with Bhopal Wonder Hockey Club. Matches will be held during the next three Fridays, on October 3, 10 and 17th.

The event is being sponsored by ABN Ambro Bank and co sponsored by Quality Printing Services, Samsung Watches, Freedom Advertising Agency, Al Wasmi Pure Drinking Water Co, Patchi and Lipton Tea.

"We are happy to provide all the support to ensure the event is a success,"remarked Ranjith Chatterjee of ABN Ambro Bank.

The winner will receive Dh5,000, runner-up Dh3,000 and third place Dh2,000.

Sixteen team will compete in the tournament with the winner receiving Dh5,000, the runner-up Dh3,000 and the third placed team Dh2,000.

The UAE junior team will play an exhibition match against Al Ain Select during the final.

4 Nation Tournament
4 Nation Tournament ! huh ! no one knows about it cuz none of the 4 nation's teams ever showed up.. and CMC is still a crap.. no changes have been made so far.. no rennovatoins have been started.. Dubai's Hocley is almost in the grave.
