MUSCAT — Muscat Selection XI coached by the versatile Yousuf Darwish provided another hockey lesson for the United Arab Emirates, who put up a better show at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Bausher yesterday.
The UAE juniors, coached by Lyeen Pegston, a veteran female hockey player of Australia, exhibited better cohesion in yesterday’s match, but failed to convert their chances into goals as they once again went down in the second friendly match 0-5.
The Muscat Selection XI did well to make inroads and score at regular intervals with Azzan Al Siyabi giving them a 2-0 lead at half time.
However, the first goal of the match came only after thirty minutes of resistance put up by the UAE juniors as Azzan sliced up the opponents’ defence to strike home.
Just seconds before the half time, Azzan did a riposte to put Muscat Selection XI ahead.
The second session, however, was total dominance for Muscat Selection XI as they increased the lead in the 49th minute with Aiman Al Nasseri finding the target with perfection.
In the 53rd minute, Nadeem Mahfoudh made no mistake with an opportunity earned for the fourth goal and just five minutes before the hooter Hafidh Ali made it five-nil.
Today, the visitors will once again play the Oman national under-15 side, which will be their final engagement of Oman camp.
