DUBAI: The UAE national junior hockey team will tour Pakistan from Aug 5 to Aug 12. The UAE national junior squads tours to Pakistan have got down to serious business with training stints at Dubal’s turf facility in Jebel Ali. Those selected from the first pool will undertake the game familiarization tour of Pakistan between August 5 and August 12. The UAE Hockey Committee (UAEHC) has the blessings of the Education Ministry which will allocate resources to selected schools in the near future. The coaches, physical education instructors and other officials are all working as a team for the coaching camps, UAE HC said.
Currently two groups of nationals (20 in total) – those born between 1988 and 1992 – and a seniors pool, are in training. Subject to availability of funds and support, a second tour, this time to Lahore, will be conducted for the older trainees. Selections and training are being looked into by resident expats German Gerhard Rach and Australian Lynne supported by Vaqar, marketing representative, and Osama and Mohammed of the Ajman and Al Ain schools for nationals. —PPI
