“Fieldhockey TV brings full coverage from Hamburg Hockey Masters 2003;
featuring an exclusive interview with Dhanraj Pillay”
In March, UK-based Narrowstep Inc, launched www.high.tv, as the internet’s first scheduled television channel, featuring outdoor action, adventure and extreme sports.
The first few month’s viewing numbers show that the concept is receiving a warm welcome from a global audience. Advertisers and sponsors look to embrace the business model that Narrowstep has developed.
In comparison only few specialised hard-copy magazines manage a circulation of more of more than 30,000/month, which number high.tv has already surpassed in it’s first two months of existence.
Based on the initial success of high.tv , Narrowstep decided to move forward on introducing www.fieldhockey.tv as the next of it’s family of broadband channels.
Many Olympic sports such as field hockey, have an extensive global following, but on a regional basis, often lack the demand needed to attract the interest of broadcasters. As a result these sports are generally not televised.
Broadband internet offers an economically viable alternative, which means the “spell of lacking media attention” can be broken.
“Field hockey has a passionate global following that is crying out for just this kind of coverage and information about our sport. I believe that Fieldhockey TV will drive increased participation, support clubs and organising bodies and create global publicity for a much under-publicised sport”, said Atlanta 96 Gold Medallist, Roelant Oltmans.
www.fieldhockey.tv will show filmed material from the Hamburg Masters 2003. The 9th edition of the Four-Nations-Tournament, from June 27-29 was hosted by the Uhlenhorster Hockey-Club and featured squads from Germany, India, Spain and Argentina.
The total coverage will be in 4 parts, of which the first has already been aired since July 3rd, the other 3 programmes will be "on air" as of July 16th.
Part of the programme contains an exclusive interview with Dhanraj Pillay, Captain of the Indian National Hockey Team.
All four competing teams are in the final stages of preparing for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, with India, Argentina and Germany also competing in the upcoming Rabobank Men’s Champions Throphy 2003 in Amsterdam, next August.
All teams will be featured extensively on www.fieldhockey.tv , a new network on the public internet, formed jointly by former Dutch National Hockey Coach , Roelant Oltmans and Narrowstep Inc. Fieldhockey TV, a Web Channel that will “air” on the internet 24 hours a day/7 days per week, aims to establish a new, global forum, which provides the world recognition that field hockey deserves.
