Singapore, July 5. (UNI): The Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) will host the sixth Asia Cup in Kuala Lumpur from September 20-28, the Malaysian national news agency Bernama reported.
AHF honorary Secretary General P. Alagendra said Malaysia would also be playing in the men's category in the first Afro-Asian Hockey Games in Hyderabad from Oct 24 to Nov 1 along with South Korea and sub-continental giants - India and Pakistan.
China, India, Japan and South Korea would be participating in the women's category, he said.
Alagendra said the 36th AHF council meeting held recently in Busan, South Korea, has agreed that Iran would host the first Asian Indoor Hockey Tournament in December 2003.
Meanwhile, the South East Asia (SEA) Hockey Cup for men and women will be held in Singapore from August 30 to September 7.
Since hockey was not included in the SEA Games 2003 in Vietnam and is not likely either in the SEA Games 2007, the AHF decided to organise the tournament for countries in the region, said the Kuala Lumpur-based Alagendra said.
"This event is for countries which would normally participate in the SEA Games," Bernama quoted Alagendra as saying in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Alagendra said tournament would help to maintain interest in the game and provide assistance for its development in the region.
