Young Stars gained partial revenge for their runner-up spot in the League when they ousted newly crowned Champions Punch & Judy from the last competition of the season, the KO. Punch & Judy's attempt to score their first double will have to be put on ice once again.
Played in dry and dusty conditions, the game never reached great heights. Punch & Judy had Kevin Micallef back into the squad but were missing Jonathan Seychell, Brian Mizzi and Josef Antonelli. They got off to a slow start and Young Stars punished them early when after five minutes, from their first short-corner move, they scored their all important goal when Chris Bugeja fired in. With still plenty of time to play Punch & Judy tried to get their act together but never reached the level of play that they showed during their triumphant league campaign. They did improve in the second half but Young Stars still kept strong control on midfield. Punch & Judy were unlucky when they hit the upright through Aquilina and Vella missed a couple of good but Young Stars were always the better organised side and their goalkeeper Mizzi was in good form and all in all they deserved their final victory.
Young Stars now take on holders The George Pub in the first semi-final that will be played on Sunday. In the second semi-final at 11.00am The Athlete's Foot and Pasta Poiatti will face each other with both sides doing their best to salvage a disappointing season.
