UAE hockey team to tour Germany

The inactive UAE Hockey Committee (UAE HC) seems to have finally woken up. The committee announced that an UAE hockey team would tour Germany from May 9.
Raza Abidi, the co-ordinator of the UAE HC announced the tour at a press conference held at the Sheraton Dubai Creek. "The tour will be from May 9 to 23 and we will be playing eight matches in Germany. Two of the matches are being held in Munich," said Abidi.
The tour is being sponsored by meBank and supported by National Bank of Dubai, Standard Chartered Bank, Sheraton Dubai Creek, International Printing Press, Quick Photos and Multilink Events and management.
The press conference was attended by Major Saeed Al Suwaidi, the General Secretary of the UAE HC, Ahmed Al Sayegh, the UAE team captain, Safdar Cheema, Vice captain, Mudit Saxena of meBank and Qamar Talat of Multilink.
"The UAE will be playing against the top clubs in Germany and their Olympic junior team. It will be a great experience for the players," added Abidi.
Major Suwaidi wished the players all the best for the tour while Al Sayegh said: "This is a great opportunity for us to show that hockey is still active in UAE. It has always been a struggle for hockey with no money and ground to play. I am delighted that finally we have garnered some support for the game."
Abidi also announced that a UAE junior team comprising boys between 8 to 15 will tour Pakistan from August 5 and play in Karachi.
Abidi also revealed that the UAE under-19 team has been invited to participate in a tournament in Lahore from December 1 to 5.
The team: Ahmed Al Sayegh (Capt), Safdar Cheema (Vice Captain), Yousulf Sultan, Arshad Nazir, Mohammed Irfan Shafqat, Raza Abidi, Owais Ur Rehman, Mohammed Hassan, C.H. Naeem Ahmed, Mohammed Zulifqar, Nasir Khan, Bilal Nazir, Amir Suleman, Sohali Rafiq Butt, Qadir Hussan, P.K.B. Bijo, Mohammed Arif and Ghous Rasool. Viqar Ahmed (manager).
