Sharkia win again
The year culminated with the Africa Cup of Club Champions for men and women which was played in the Mediterranean port of Alexandria. The hosts, Smoha Hockey Club, did a fine job in hosting the event.

Sharkia (Egypt) once again continued their domination of the men's competition whilst Telcom (Kenya) won the women's title.

Due to congestion in the 2001 Calendar, the next ACCC tournament will be held in 2002 (probably in April).

Development and Coaching grants
Each of the Continental Federations will receive allocations of funding for Development and Coaching from the FIH for administration and development programmes in 2001. In addition, the FIH will make available funds for special grants to national associations. The grant application and approval procedures will be notified shortly.

All delegates to the recent AHF Council meeting agreed to submit to Clare Digby their plans for 2001 (including further information on YotY initiatives and requests for umpiring and coaching courses) before the end of the year.

Drawing on the inputs from the various national associations, a joint working group made up of representatives of the AHF's DCC, Umpiring and YotY Sub-Committees, will draft a year programme for 2001 for discussion with the AHF Executive Board.

Constitutional review
The draft new AHF Constitution, prepared by the Constitutional Task Force which was chaired by Clare Digby, may be affected in various ways by the new FIH Statutes. This matter is to be reviewed early in the New Year.

New Presidents
The Egyptian Hockey Federation, Hockey Association of Zimbabwe and South African Hockey Association have all recently held annual general meetings and elected new presidents.

Said Abdeen and Mohamed Shahin were elected the Egyptian President and deputy respectively. Gavin Stephens and Louis Mnyama - the excellent former national player - are the new Zimbabwean President and Vice-President respectively; whilst Charles Smith and Sheila Brown are SAHA's new president and vice-president.

The Kenya Hockey Union also recently held elections, which saw incumbent Hardev S Kular re-elected.

Insured
Officials travelling on AHF business or participating in AHF events are now covered by an AHF insurance policy.

Award for Uganda
The Uganda Hockey Association has been awarded the prestigious AHF Development Award for 2000. The award went to the Hockey Association of Zimbabwe in 1999.

Uganda's proposal for a development pitch has been accepted by the FIH for an IOC/FIH grant, subject to certain criteria. This is a great boost to Uganda's development plans.

Off to Birmingham
Gavin Cullen and Dennis Perkins, both AHF umpire managers, have been invited to participate in the International Umpire Managers Seminar in Birmingham (UK) in Feb 2000.

A successful umpiring course was held in Alexandria during the ACCC tournament.

The registration fees payable by all AHF graded umpires has been abolished.
