Western Wildcats devoured the Hungarian side Rosco, in their opening match in the European Cup-Winners' Cup in Prague yesterday, with a convincing 6-1 victory.
The newly-crowned Scottish champions dominated the match from start to finish, despite only scoring once in the first half, when David Mitchell volleyed home.
Within two minutes of the restart, striker Douglas Simpson put the Scots two up with a powerful shot following a penalty corner switch. Both Western captain Vishal Marwaha and Rosco's Zsolt Reidl were sent to the sin bin, and the Wildcats were caught off guard as Imre Losconci pulled one back.
However, defenders Murray Laing and Euan Miller converted penalty corners before striker Johnny McMeechan and Marwaha scored.
Meanwhile in the A division of the women's event in Rotterdam, Grange started well against Sintez Dzerjinsk City, Louise Munn converting a third-minute penalty corner. However, the Russians ran out 4-1 winners.
Today, Grange play Vilnius and Wildcats face Grammarians (Gibraltar).
