The hockey matches on Sunday took on, what has now become a somewhat familiar scenario. While Punch & Judy continue in their winning ways, notching up a seventh consecutive victory; their rivals contrive to continue taking off points from each other. After Sunday’s win Punch & Judy have now built up a massive nine point lead and victory in their last second round match (vs. The Athlete’s Foot) will mean that they would need just one point from their remaining four matches to retain the Championship.

Standings:

P W D L F A PTS
Punch & Judy Rabat 7 7 0 0 16 2 21
Young Stars 8 4 0 4 9 9 12
The Athlete’s Foot 7 3 1 3 9 9 10
The George Pub 7 3 0 4 5 11 9
Pasta Poiatti 7 0 1 6 3 11 1

On Sunday Punch & Judy took a half time lead through Shaun Falzon but The George Pub equalised through Reno Cremona. Punch & Judy were not to be undone and in the final minutes Jonathan Seychell pounced on a rebound to hit in the winner. For Seychell this was goal number six of the campaign and consolidated his position as leading scorer.

In the first game on Sunday, Young Stars moved back into second place thanks to a 1-0 victory over The Athlete’s Foot. In a balanced and entertaining match Young Stars scored the all important goal 30 seconds from the final whistle when in a swift counter attack caught the Sliema defence outnumbered and Chris Attard was allowed a free hit at goal to beat Mallia.

The National League will now resume on Sunday 15th March.

Where's everybody ... where is he!
Can someone tell me what happened to the Giant umpire. Did Manuel Imbroll really disappear from the scene once and for all??

Manuel Imbroll
At the moment it seems that he is away from the game, however I can assure the (so called) Hockey Fan that it's not in the interest of Hockey that Manuel stays away. Manuel is one of the VERY few that has been contributing in no small way to Maltese Hockey. Whether you like it or not, the facts are facts. Personally I hope that he will be back in near future, however if his decision remains that of staying away from Kordin, I respect it and thank him for his useful contribution he gave to Maltese Hockey.

HAM Web site
Steve, what happened to the HAM web site? whoever visits the site might get the idea that the only hockey going on in Malta is the 9-a-side league, and games are held once a month.

With all respect, Robert, it has been a big sigh of relief to know that he has decided to call it a day! All of us will benefit, especially Young Stars, in no small way. He was a menace to all.

My comments refer to last Sunday's match of Youngstars against Hotsticks.

I wanted to congratulate both teams for their display. I think the match was quite balanced during the first half with Hotsticks having a slight edge over Youngstars. I believe the turning point came when Youngstars coach Chris Bugeja made a decisive move were he swapped the positions of Mark Camilleri and Joseph Dalli.

With this move youngstars succeeded in scoring a couple of goals and they also improved their control of the match. But as always, there is also the dark side to the story. I cannot not mention this particular incident which occured in the ending moments of the second half and once again it was the same player involved, something which lately is becoming quite a habit by this player.

I am refering to Ludwig who i really cannot understand since he is such a skillfull player and also a very promising player who will surely have his place not only with the starting eleven of the hotsticks team but also in the national side. Ludwig is unfortunately a very dirty player and i am not referring to the fact that he doesn't have a shower!!!

I am referring to the fact that he finds a particular pleasure in hitting his opponents both off the ball as well as when they are in possession of the ball and for me this type of attitude is not accepatable but unfortunately no one seems to have the necessary guts to take action on him.

Rabat vs Athete's Foot
I am sorry to say but we had to see again some disgusting scenes at cKordin again. This time from hotsticks player M. Caruana Smith. Good to notice that even his own players were angry with him.

But I am sorry to say that part of the fault has to be put on the umpires since they gave MCS the chance of doing so with 2 yellow cards before the accident. Instead of send him away on the second time.

Lets hope that the disciplinary board will doo us the favour!

i watched the last match between the goerge pub and hotstocks. i just want to say that it seemed clear to everyone watching that the hotsticks player were more interested in swearing and trying to tackle roughly luke busuttil leaver.

Just thank him for the service that he gave your club along the years just like you should thank manuel imbroll. It seems that there is something or someone who is driving people away from hotsticks. Lets see how the game tomorrow goes.

!!!!!!!!!
You are right in pointing out the fact that Hotsticks or to be correct some of hotsticks players are trying to play roughly. It seems it is the only way of hockey which they know how to play. The problem is that these people are not being reprimended during the match and they keep on doing it over and over again.
