With the second round going past its half way mark there was little change in the League table in fact Sunday was another positive day for Punch & Judy Rabat who extended their lead at the top with a 2-0 victory over bottom placed Pasta Poiatti Qormi. The George Pub re-joined the battle for second place with a rather fortunate 1-0 victory over Young Stars.
Standings:
P W D L F A PTS
Punch & Judy Rabat 6 6 0 0 14 1 18
The Athlete's Foot 6 3 1 2 9 8 10
Young Stars 7 3 0 4 8 9 9
The George Pub 6 3 0 3 4 9 9
Pasta Poiatti 7 0 1 6 3 11 1
Punch & Judy's relentless march towards their fourth League title continued on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over bottom placed Pasta Poiatti Qormi. Despite not fielding their best formation Punch & Judy raced into a two-goal lead by half time with goals from Shaun Falzon and Jonathan Seychell. Pasta Poiatti fought back well in the second half and where rather unlucky when Reuben Chircop hit the post on two occasions.
In the second game of the day The George Pub ended a sequence of three consecutive defeats with victory over Young Stars. Young Stars, quite justifiably, may feel hard done by the 1-0 score line. They dominated the match from start to finish wasting numerous scoring chances as well as seeing The George Pub goalkeeper perform a couple of good saves. In the end however it is the goals that count and from the half a dozen scoring chances that The George Pub conjured up they struck a simple killer blow ten minutes from time. With three passes they broke out of defence and wrong footed the Young Stars defence and David Aguis showed no mercy with his hit from the top of the dee.
The George Pub will now take Punch & Judy in Sunday's second game starting at 11.00am. In the first match of the day The Athlete's Foot face Young Stars. The first round matches ended in identical score lines of 2-0 in favour of Punch & Judy and The Athlete's Foot.
