- First Point For Pasta Poiatti

Punch & Judy Rabat continued with their triumphant march when they opened their second round commitments with a 2-1 victory over Young Stars. In the second game of the day Pasta Poiatti Qormi took their first point of the season when they held The Athlete's Foot to a scoreless draw.

Standings:

P W D L F A PTS
Punch & Judy Rabat 5 5 0 0 12 1 15
The Athlete's Foot 6 3 1 2 9 8 10
Young Stars 6 3 0 3 8 8 9
The George Pub 5 2 0 3 3 9 6
Pasta Poiatti 6 0 1 5 3 9 1

This victory now puts Punch & Judy five points ahead of The Athlete's Foot and with a game in hand. On Sunday two goals in the first half from Aldo Gatt and Jonathan Seychell put the Rabat side in a commanding position. They could have killed the game half way through the second half but Chris Bugeja's penalty hit the post. Soon after Hughes pulled one back for Young Stars and the game seemed to turn. Incidentally this was the first goal the Punch & Judy defence suffered. Young Stars pushed for the equalizer and Bugeja almost got it but he hit the post. After this scare Rabat controlled the game and took another three precious points.

The Athlete's Foot recent run of three victories in a row meant that they started as favourites against bottom placed Pasta Poiatti Qormi. However games like this tend to be tricky and despite almost seventy minutes of pressure The Athlete's Foot failed to breach a compact Pasta Poiatti defence in which goalkeeper Chircop and 'libero' Crockford had an excellent game. The Athlete's Foot had their chances and they weren't even very lucky especially when Xuereb fired a first time hit against the crossbar. Coupled with this their short-corner moves failed to make any headway and in the end they had to be content with one point. For Pasta Poiatti it was a deserved point, maybe not for Sunday's performance, but for their recent games were they gave a good account of themselves despite a number of problems.

In their next match on Sunday, Pasta Poiatti will be facing Punch & Judy. In the first round the leaders had to struggle to take all three points and only a goal in the final minutes saw them through. In the second game of the day The George Pub face Young Stars hoping to stop their run of defeats, which started with their 3-0 first round defeat against the same Young Stars.

It was Andrew Camillri who hit the pole not Chris Bugeja (YS).
