Domke double act gives Germany gold

The inaugural Indoor World Cup ended here yesterday with Germany winning both gold medals and France taking both bronzes. The German men were in excellent form to beat Poland 7-1 in their final, whilst the women struggled to beat the Dutch 5-2.
The men's final was a triumph for the Domke brothers from Russelheim, Christian opening the scoring with his elder brother, Oliver, killing off the Poles with a hat-trick. Poland equalised Christian's early goal, but the Germans then moved ahead at regular intervals, confirming their complete supremacy of the indoor game which now stands at 121 games without defeat.
The women's final was a much closer contest in spite of the Germans going into a 3-0 lead after 17 minutes. Two goals from Marianne van Geenhuizen either side of the interval set up an exciting second half until the closing five minutes when Germany pulled away. Natascha Keller scored twice to take her total during the tournament to 24.
The day had started with a fierce contest between Canada and the Netherlands which, with never more than a goal between the sides, ended 4-4, the Dutch eventually winning 4-3 in a shoot out.
