Indoor set play from restart
Indoor set play from restart

Player A (in possession of ball) fakes to player C who cuts out and back in to post to shift defense. Player B curls back towards Player A while squaring up for pass. Player E fakes to overlap outside and calls for ball to shift defense-once the shift occurs, Players E drops to cover. Player E has just cleared space for Player A. Player D moves defender away from goal then changes pace to shake defender by sprinting hard to post. Player A cuts in behind Player B who lays the ball off on their reverse for a one time shot. Have fun with this, Jeff

The restartplay
This is not good. You know why, because in indoor the balls cant jump up so player D is standing there but is not dangerous his defender can do two steps forward without losing D out of side.
They C player has two defender that wont happen never. They will always make a wall of three people and the ball will never go threw it.

Not a good or smart situation.

Player B and E can better swich from places then one of them has the ball or can pass him back to player A. This means player A has all the time to shoot at the goal.

Because as an attacker you always has to look for the less defenders so player E B and A against two defenders, that is the best way.

Greetings,
Jeff

Set Play
Zone your defense up in a practice session and emphasize your middle man cutting back in front of their middle man. Play quick or be aware of 3 the meter space. By doing this you have ultimaly created a 2v1 with many options.

The use of Set Plays
I encourage such movements on restarts where there are multiple options to draw the defense from their half court press. Using your 2 forwards deep along the baseline is effective. Your key player here is your middle man who must force the defense to adjust to his reception of the ball. If they converge on him...he can send it back to his defender who uses the boards to the attack corners. Triangles and quick ball movement is very important.
Would any coach like to comment on the postioning of the 2 defenders when in a half court & full court press when the opponent is initiating play from within their circle.
Interesting

How to view a larger version of the image for this play.
Left-Click on the image and holding the mouse button down, drag it to the address bar of your browser. The mouse pointer will initially have below the arrow a circle with a line through it (like a no-go zome) and the when it comes to the browser's address bar, the circle will change to a square with a cross inside it. It this at this point you let go of the left mouse button. The full image will now be display in your browser. Have fun!!

Off the ball movement
To: Indoor coach
One of the best ways to instill movement is to begin with shapes.
Outline the concept of clearing space and moving to space. Let your players know that inside the circle most teams will convert to a man to man marking system in the back....this makes them vunerable!
When teams zone straight up...they are controlling space and moving a unit of 5....be patient and find movements and patterns to go around them. Set plays are difficult in this area of the court. Free pushes into the attacking circle are a great time to utilize what Jeff Harding is speaking about. My favorite and what I believe is the most effective is using shapes to outline movements patterns of the forwards, middle man and weak side defender.
Example:
Align your middle man and 2 forwards in a large triangle...one player initiates movement (you decide as coach) and the trio clears and moves to space to recieve. If your opponent man marks you...you got them!!!
If not for a direct pass....for sure space to move the ball to.
Jeff...do you have any more indoor set plays that your club team works with?
