Why isn't Cuba in the tournament this year? As much as I am happy for Trinidad and Tobago men to get an easier opportunity at gold (Mexico seems to be a shadow of their usual competitive selves), I am still curious as to the Cuban absence.

Good luck Barbados and T&T men.

The women's competition seems more evenly balanced and a lot more interesting. Good luck T&T.

Hey Wolfman...
Sometimes you have to speak to your players in a language they can understand to get results, so I was trying that technique - good old Bajan dialect. Sorry if it had you 'kafoffle' (at a complete loss). It seems to have worked, if the last set of results I see on the PAHF website are anything to go by.

Go Bajans!

The women look to be playing for Bronze, I would have preferred Gold, but well done anyway, (keep fighting ladies!) and the men have stepped up and beat their nemesis, T&T. It's been a long time since we've beaten them, TREMENDOUS WORK!!!! We going to Pan Am!!!!

By the way, does anybody know what happened to the games scheduled for Saturday? Did they play?

Clarification
I just wanted to point out that I don't know the results for the finals yet. Barbados beat T&T in the round robin, and now have to play them in the final. After seeing Wolfman's post I thought I should clear that up.

Good luck Barbados!

Kwan picked up his second yellow card arguing with an umpire and that's an automatic one match suspension.

Hockey amateur, I was having some fun. I do understand, it just means I have to sound out what you typed for it to make sense *smile*.

Some disgruntled Venezuelan is saying that T&T threw the match so that we can play Barbados in the final. Can anyone here who knows how fierce the rivalry is set them straight across there please. Venezuela hasn't beaten us since I played for T&T and that was 5 years ago... I've lost to Barbados in '98 and the guys have had to work hard in the time since. Why would we choose a team that has the potential to beat us over a team that we blew out in this tournament?

Total Rubbish!!!!!!
Hey Wolfman, don't let this "disgruntled Venezuelan" upset you -anyone in their right mind would know that T&T would never throw a game against Barbados...... The mere fact that Quan played the game would show that they went out there with their strongest team even though they knew that they had already qualified. Actually, if I was the coach I would probably not even played Quan seeing that he already had a yellow card and there was the possibility of him getting another yellow in the Barbados game (which did in fact happen). Now Quan will miss the final against Barbados which is quite a blow to the T&T team - I hope now the rest of the guys step up to the plate and show Barbados what they are made of - GOOD LUCK in the finals Guys!!! And to the women - Great going girls!!!! I hope both teams return with the GOLD!!!!!!!!

Yeah, it is cool that we can keep it cool. I've seen some threads (on other hockey boards) where the language is out and out abusive.

I don't know who officiated the game in the B'dos v. TT match. The report from the local newspaper quoted the TT manager as saying he got the card for using some strong language after a very hard tackle on him.

I'm not sure if St. Rose umpires anymore... got to find out from someone living at home. I know that for the past 2 CAC Games and tournaments in between that other TT umpires have been sent and he was the one endorsing this idea to let others get exposed. As I know more about if he umpires still I'll post. Maybe someone else who knows better will say something first.

TNT- two golds
To the T&T Hockey fan you are absolutely correct. why would any coach risk losing his best player Kwan in a final for which he is already qualified is beyond me. Ther was as much depth in that decision as the thought process of an amoeba. That was always going to be a lose lose situation. Thankfully the players and the organizers contrived to pull his butt out of that sling.
Well done ladies for showing how it ought to have been done!

No confusion here... I dunno where TRINCAN got his news but T&T won the gold in both the men and women's tournament. 3-2 and 3-1 were the scores in the respective finals against Barbados and Jamaica, also in respective order.

Browne's suspension was overruled and he scored one of the goals in the final. Dean Neives, Nicholas Wren, and Browne scored the goals for T&T and if the report is correct Mark Murray scored both for Barbados.

Oire Trotman, Stacey Sui-Butt and Shurlan Cabralis scored for T&T's women, not sure who scored for Jamaica.
