Qualification for 2003 Pan Am Games
The selection for the 2003 Pan Am Games (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, August 1 to 17) is as follows:

1) Host country (Dominican Republic);
2) Defending Champion (M: Canada - W: Argentina);
3) Winner and 2nd placed country at 2002 CAC Games (unless already qualified as host);
4) Winner of 5th South America Championship (or 2nd if winner has qualified as defending Champion);
5) Remaining places, up to 8, filled based on standings at 1st Americas Cup.

Since Cuba (Men) has won the 2000 Americas Cup, they will be selected for the Pan Am Games even though they don't compete at the CAC Games.

Note that in future Pan American Games, the defending Champion will not be an automatic qualifier (in accordance with FIH policy for World Cups, Olympic Games, etc...).

I think this competition is open. Most teams stand a chance. I pray and hope it will be the reggae island for men and women. Wouldn't that be great!!!

Puerto Rico
Congrats to the committee in Puerto Rico for not only getting the site and the tournament together, but for getting a Womens' team ready for the tournament. I think others will be surprised at the level of play the Women have gotten to in just 9 months. Good luck to the Hosts!

JZ,

Do you have a website for the Puerto Rican field hockey committee?

The tournament should be loads of fun and I look forward to it and to your reply.

Thanx!

There may not be an official tournament website, but you can get the schedule and results from the Pan Am website at:

Dominican Republic
I just found out that the Dominican Republic won't be in the tournament and the tournament will be a round robin. The top two teams will play for gold and silver, 3 and 4 will play for bronze. Yes there isn't a website. I get my information from my wife, a player for Puerto Rico.

CAC hockey history
Does anyone know where I can get information on the history of results at the CAC games for hockey? I only know what has happened since '86. What has happened before? If I am not mistaken '86 was the 1st year women's hockey was contested for medals.

Who has won the most gold medals, men and women?
