There were goals galore in the third round of the EH Men's Cup yesterday, Cannock topping the bill with a 22-0 win over West Bridgford. Simon Organ and Martin Jones each netted six as Cannock just failed to beat their own Cup record – 23-0 against Pelicans two seasons ago.

On Saturday, Reading took over leadership of the Premier Division of the National League with a 3-0 win at Doncaster, the New Zealander Ken Robinson scoring twice. Yesterday they beat Oxford Hawks 13-0, Robinson scoring five, while two younger players also figured, Andy Watts with a hat-trick and Richard Mantell with a brace.

James Webber, who scored the only goal for Teddington in their 1-0 win over Guildford – who were opening their new waterbased pitch on Saturday – was again in good form yesterday scoring four times as Teddington thrashed Robinsons 12-0. Spencer's Adam Laird scored five times as his team joined the double figure sides with a 11-2 victory away at West Gloucester.

In a rearranged Women's National League game at Bisham Abbey Hightown – without their international goalkeeper Carolyn Reid – were no match for Slough, who followed up Saturday's 3-2 win against the League leaders Olton with a 10-1 win yesterday to take over top spot. England's principal goal scorer, Jane Smith, netted four.

Cup Upsets
I agree - shame the Press concentrate on the big boys!!

Banbury play in a Local regional league and they beat Bishops Stortford 3-2, who are flying high in the East Premier, and they have been rewarded with a trip to Southgate in Round 4!!

We all knew that Cannock and Reading would win, the press need to get back to grass roots!!

Cup
Did you not read any of the articles before the games, for example the write up on Coalville Town. The news item is on goals scored which is what counts and if you look at the results there are no upsets to report on really. That said well done to Banbury and Surbiton - how happy am I the OG'S are out!!!

cup games
the canterbury vs purley seemed the tightest game of the round and the nearest to a cup upset, amazing it wasnt mentioned!Purley took Canterbury Men to a Golden Goal situation which they should be proud of.

Andy/ Gonzo and No Shocks
Nearest to a Cup Shock - Banbury are two leagues below Bishops Stortford, and were 2 down inside 9 minutes!!

Non-hockey people are not interested in Cannock scoring 22 goals against West Brigdeford - what is going to catch the eye is results like Banbury's and Purley taking Canterbury to Golden Goal.

I wish all the "minnows" luck and hope the press give the little clubs the covergae they deserve.

Come on press get you fingers out!!

Cup shocks
I note you fail to comment on the Coalville article that I mentioned. Come on Banbury beating Bishop Stortford well done but that is like Cheltenham beating Hull City in the FA Cup.

And I am sorry but saying that Banburys victory stands out more than Cannocks to non hockey players is laughable - think about it would you read about the above FA cup result or turn straight to Man Utd beating Brentford by 10 goals (for example). Had Purley won I think we would have seen a different headline - but they didnt!

These results are great for the local papers to stimulate interest in the local area but big scores such as Cannocks this round, Swindons and Old Georgians last round, should take precedence in the nationals.

I also wish the minnows all the best and hope there are some upsets which will take the broadsheets by storm but there was nothing like it in round 3

Thanks for your support!!

Must admit we are quite pleased with ourselves after that dismal start (2 down in 9 mins).

Looking forward to Southgate and meeting up with Adrian Simons (ex Banbury). We fancy our chance of scoring a couple but there is some concern over how many are going in the other end!!

p.s. got a little mention in the Times and Independent today.

You may be dissappointed on Sunday Joe as the next round of the cup is not being played until the 24th November - it must be the shock eh??

Good luck Banbury against Southgate now a win there would be something to write about - and if Joe 90 does attend I would suggest having paramedics on standby I fear the excitement would be too much !!!!

Must say Andy, try 2 keep your dummy in next time, you keep making a bit of a muppet out of yourself on this site. If the way you play hockey is as negative as the rubbish you write, I'm glad I'll never be watching any of you games, you should get out more. Batty.
