I think it is a damn good exercise. However,I think you should clarify the age and/or skill level of the fH player, who should undertake this exercise. I can see, somebody could get hurt?

After training for years doing traditional weights (like those suggested in Sean Campbell's series), I found that I got stronger but didn't see real performance benefits in field hockey. This changed when I found a balance training workout (http://www.dynamicworkout.com/) that incorporates a fitball in every exercise. Instead of feeling bulky and inflexible after a workout, I feel loose, a little tired but standing taller and more graceful (for lack of a better word). I have been feeling significant (if unmeasurable) improvements in my changes of direction, reaction time, and overall power. These wobble board exercises are a great supplement to that workout, and I look forward to seeing further benefits from them.

My prediction is that the static weight training programs we have been doing for the last however many years will die quickly as sports physiologists, trainers and athletes realize that the ability to bench press a significant amount of weight does diddly for you on the field.
