Trojans' return to the Premier Division of the women's National League proved about as miserable as it can get after a 7-0 drubbing from Ipswich.

Hat-tricks from Sarah Bamfield and Tanya Barnard gave Ipswich their best margin of victory for years and proved to the newcomers that despite their promising young side, life in the top flight, without a permanent coach, will be tough.

They progressed well under Ben Barnes, but his playing commitments for Reading this season would have meant missing too many matches. They decided to part company and Trojans now have national Under-21 coach Dave Passmore helping out informally.

However, they held out for 18 minutes before Bamfield struck her first and thereafter the goals went in regularly.

Slough opened the new pitch at Bisham Abbey but were mugged at the death when Helen Richardson turned in a last-minute corner to give Leicester a 2-1 victory, while Mel Clewlow was also on target late to give Canterbury a 1-0 win over Sutton Coldfield.
