Colorado Springs, Colo. ? Shawn Hindy scored four goals to lead the United States men?s field hockey team to a 7-0 victory over Venezuela in the first day of action at the Mexico Four Nation Tournament in Salamancia.

In the other game of the tournament, Cuba defeated host Mexico, 1-0.

Hindy scored the first two goals of the contest off a penalty stroke and field goal at the 14 and 27 minute marks before teammate Jarred Martin (Saratoga springs, N.Y.) added a field goal in the 32nd minute to give the U.S. a 3-0 halftime lead.

Brothers Pat and Sean Harris sandwiched a pair of goals around two Hindy second half tallies to complete the U.S. scoring. The game marked the first official international contest for 15-year old Sean Harris as well as U.S. players David Schmoyer, Bryan Rauschenberger, Afzal Siddiqui, Arjan Reyatt, Malachi Mahan and Chris Terrebonne.

Goalkeeper Siddiqui recorded the shutout in his first start in the USA cage.

?We started off a little slow, but we picked it up in the second half,? said U.S. manager Alva Serrett. ?The junior players played exceptionally well.?

The U.S. continues the tournament on Saturday against Mexcio, while Cuba takes on Venezuela.

The reason why a young team has been taken to Mexico is due to the lack of availability of the other senior players. Most of the players who were on the America's Cup team are still on the national team, but they could not make the trip due to a number of reasons; mainly due to injuries. Since the pool of players has gone down significantly compared to 4-5 years ago, the coaching staff was put in a position to select junior players.

Why didn't they let the best U.S. player get any minutes?
Arjan is better than everyone on the team! You should mention the fact that he has more skill than Nakamura and Harris. Nobody is more dedicated or has as much skill as Arjan.
