Loose Ball Training

This is a very simple training (for the U/14's) but it has a great effect.

Most games are won by the number of loose ball won therefore this exercise is essential!!

Step 1. draw two parallel lines of 4 meters distance
Step 2. two players facing each other on the parallel lines
Step 3. Put a ball in the middle (2 metres distance)
Step 4. by making a visual sign the two players have to reach the ball before the other one.

Execution: the winner is the player who reaches the the ball first and put it behind him.

As I said it is a very simple training but it improves:
1. strength
2. tackling
3. vision
4. technique

It is important to use a visual sign so that the players have to look up before executing the 'reach'.

Good, concrete, doable suggestions!Great!
Let's have more of this type of stuff.
When your writers interview all the great players and coaches you interview, why not ask them a few technical/training/how-to-tips type questions? That's what will really help advance the sport.

Loose Ball Training
I s'pose it's alright but it's basic beyond belief. 'Looking up' isn't done going into the tackle or trying to get a loose ball - it's done before or after you get the ball. To improve the drill have two or three possible outlet passes available. Once the ball is recovered the player must' look up'and get the ball to a receiver. To progress the drill have two of the receivers turn away and the player has to pass to the one player looking at them and obviously wanting to receive the ball.

Loose ball training
tried this exercise with 10-15 year olds. Brill, every hard work but also some new ideas about winning the ball came from this drill. The next game I noticed people fight harder for the ball.

Loose ball drills.
great drill. to expand we have tried making 2 teams and numbering the kids 1-5, putting them on either side of a 10x10 grid. with the ball in the middle of the grid you then call out a number and the kids who have been given that number must run round a cone at the end of the grid and then challenge for the ball. as a progression you then call a second number for a support player or put in a goal to shoot at. great introduction to loose ball though and will definitly use it in the future :-)

why do you have to take it behind you? wouldn't that be an obstruction?...better to take the ball, contest it and get it past the opponent's line
