18th Alps cup ? Men 20.-23.09.2001.
Zagreb, Croatia

Day 4
Results:

5th/6th place: Switzerland ? Austria 5:4 p.s. (1:1) (0:0)
scorers: Stuebi for SUI; Mayer for AUT

During the whole match Austria had the initative, they had many chances, but missed almost impossible. Finally they scored in the 58th minute, but Swiss equalised just one minute later, and again we had the same old story. So match ended draw, and went to penalty strokes in which Swiss were better scoring 4 out of 4, while Austrians scored only 3 out of 5. 5th place to young Swiss team.

4th/3rd place: Croatia ? Czech Republic 5:8 (1:5)
scorers: Bujan 2, Tomicic, Kirin and Ruzic for CRO; Prochazka 4, Martinec 2, Bodnar and Bernatek for CZE

Absolutely the most exciting match of the tournament. 13 goals in total, who could wish for more. Croatia has already fulfilled their aim by getting into this match, while Czech R. was determined to prove their power. And so they did in the first half. Brilliant PC flicker Prochazka scored twice for 2:0, and then Martinec added two more easy goals as Czech demonstration of power. In the second half Croats led by their best player Elvis Kirin, opened up completely and that made the match so interesting. Goals were coming as rain drops, and the crowed was enjoyed many nice moves. Croatia raised their hopes when Kirin scored for 4:6 in the 53rd minute, but this time Czechs were too careful to allow any more surprises. This was really a great match and after all a great success for Croatian team and coach Milan Zegarac.

1st/2nd place: Italy ? France 2:1 (0:1)
scorers: Cirilli and Cirina for ITA; Branquart for FRA
The final match wasn?t so rich with in beauty, but in all Italy deserved the victory. Through out the first half ball was on the French half, but Italians were unable to score. One minute before the end France had counter attack and won their first PC, which was flicked home by Branquart. In the second half Italy continued with their attacks and this time that payed off when Cirilli scored from their fifth PC. Finally they took the lead in 54th minute. France then started to move forward, but they didn?t create any serious threats to Italian goal so the final score remained 2:1 for Italy.
