KUALA LUMPUR: In a bid to produce more young players, the Malaysian Hockey Federation (MHF) have decided to organise the Women's Junior Hockey League from Aug 11-Sept 2.
The inaugural event will feature players aged under 18 and will only feature five teams--Bandar Penawar Sports School (BPSS), Pahang, Perak, and two teams from the Bukit Jalil Sports School (BJSS). All matches will be played at the Pantai Hockey Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.
MHF women's section president Raja Datuk Noora Ashikin Raja Abdullah said after the launching ceremony on Thursday that they had sent many invitations but only five teams had accepted.
"We expect the numbers to increase as the tournament goes into its second year."
The tournament will be played on a round-robin format, with the top two playing in the final on Sept 2.
