Year of the Youth Ambassador Fatima Moreira de Melo will give a live performance of the Year of the Youth song before the awards ceremony of the Men?s World Cup Qualifiers in Edinburgh, Scotland on the Sunday 29 July.
The Dutch National player and Olympian will switch her hockey stick for a microphone and take to the pitch to perform ?Number One?, which was written especially for the project. The song has resounded across the world, played at each of the many Year of the Youth events which have been held so far this year. This time it is Scotland?s turn, with a live performance from the year of the youth ambassador to round off their special youth events held during the tournament.
Highlights of the Year of the Youth events in Scotland so far have included the very first Scottish Hockey Union (SHU) National STIX Primary Age tournament. Around 140 children from the regions of Scotland demonstrated their skills and passion for hockey in a series of competitive matches, supported by coaches, family and friends. U-14 players from several regions in Scotland have also benefited from the focus on young players with a series of coaching sessions held at the tournament ground earlier this week, led by Brent Deans, Performance Director SHU and Niall Sturrock, FIH Coach. Kevin McNab, Year of the Youth co-ordinator for Scotland, stated, ?Without the Year of the Youth initiative the very first Scottish Hockey Union STIX National Primary Age Tournament would never have happened.?
Fatima commented, ?The Year of the Youth project is the most exciting youth hockey development programme at the moment, and I am proud to be a Year of the Youth Ambassador. I love to sing, and Number One has a special message to all kids ? keep on going when things get tough ? but most of all, have fun!?
