Call for Lahore Course
Invitations to apply for participation in the FIH International Final Coaching Seminar in Lahore during the 2001 Men’s Champions’ Trophy have been sent out.
Participants at this event, kindly hosted by the Pakistan Hockey Federation, can earn nomination as a certified FIH Coach. They must have qualified at an FIH International Coaching Course or have had a special recommendation from two certified FIH Master Coaches.
The participation will, however, be limited to 16 qualified participants in the High Performance section and six qualified participants in the Development Coaching Section. (Further information from: Mrs Catherine Tummers, FIH, Brussels.)
The FIH International Development Coaching Course at the Women’s Junior World Cup in Buenos Aires was fully booked.
Buenos Aires Workshop
A Workshop for National Hockey Development Officers and International Hockey Development Consultants, was organised to take place in Buenos Aires during the Women’s Junior World Cup. With 14 participants, the course was expect to provide a great opportunity for the eight PanAm countries represented to gain and exchange knowledge about hockey development.
Similar workshops have been very beneficial in Africa (Alexandria 1999) and Europe (Amstelveen 2000).
Mexico pitch ready
The FIH subsidised synthetic hockey pitch in Mexico has been completed and was commissioned to the Mexican HF in April. Fiji, Slovakia and Uganda are working hard to realise their FIH subsidised pitch projects.
It is hoped to receive two further applications, from Asia and Europe, shortly.
Development grants
Many national hockey associations have applied for a grant from the FIH National Hockey Associations Development Fund.
The Executive Board, at it’s April 20 meeting, awarded grants of maximum 2,500 Euros to 30 national associations. Further applications from other national associations are expected by Gabrielle van Doorn at the Fih office in Brussels).
Year of the Youth
Hockey’s International Year of the Youth is already a big success. As many as 75 national hockey associations, from all corners of the world, are now participating actively and certain to reap the benefits. Still more are expected to join the project.
Continental federations and national associations have organised a variety of festivals, tournaments, courses and other events. Large groups of youngsters, many of whom had never played hockey before, have been involved.
In many countries, Youth Coaching Courses are taking place, conducted by a certified FIH-coach. Those associations benefit from receiving the Dita sponsored equipment kit, which comes with these courses.
Over 50 countries took part in hockey’s first ever global youth event, the Marathon, over the week-end of 12/13 May, with national, regional and local acivities.
Already 25 countries have confirmed that they will send either one or two youngsters (under 20) to Hobart for the closing event of YotY, the special International Youth Hockey Development Festival to be held during the men’s Junior World Cup in Hobart, Tasmania, in October. Those youngsters are the winners of national contests for the best hockey development and promotion ideas.
Many have found sponsors to cover their travelling expenses and when they get there, everything will be free. That is Tasmanian hospitality.
