The most senior Malaysian players in the squad are a trio of 20 year olds.... Junior World Cuppers. The rest are 18-19 years old players who are not involved in the ongoing MHL. And they were assembled in the very last minute, after some topsy turvy decision making from their federation.
I'm surprised both Hong Kong and Singapore seniors couldnt match these kids.

Actually there were 7 starting line-up first National team players, and 8 U21's all of which were over 20. All were MHL first team players, and all should be embarrassed for excuse making and drawing with HK.
Stevie learn you facts before you insult Hong Kong and Singapores efforts.

Proving to be a great success!!!
Kid,
Actually KID you are the one who should get the facts right before mouthing off. The Malaysian team was hastily assembled 2 days before the tournament and 3 players who played in JWC in Amsterdam (out of whom 2 were bench players) arrived in S'pore on Sat morning after their commitment in the MHL matches. None of the national players are involved otherwise we will have huge score line which will not be very pleasant esp to the Hongkies. The players' age range from 16-20 and they are not involved in the MHL. You take the top 6 teams in the MHL times 20 players and and even a fool can figure out that these players are ranked 121 to 140th in M'sia. HK should be ashamed that they were trailing 1-4 to these kids for 60 mins and it speaks volume of the mediocrity in HK hockey. So stop kidding yourself, KID.
As for the writer of the article, your mediocre comments will not cover the standard of hockey displayed by the team. There is no structure within the team and individual basic skills are appalling not to mention poor fitness level. HK should seriously be concern about development and getting more talents to play the sport to enlarge the base first.

Correct Stevie
Stevie's fact was spot on!
Zulkifli Rejab, Ahmad Bazli and S Bubalan were the most "senior" among the boys there. Three of them were in the Rotterdam Junior World Cup.
The rest didn't make the recent JWC squad.
Name us the 7 starting line up from the National team or the 8 U21's you mentioned, Kid!
There was NO:
S Kuhan
Roslan (GK)
Kumar (GK)
Nasihin (GK)
Nor Azlan
Madzli
Keevan
Logan
Shanker
Chua Boon Huat
Amin
Shaiful Azli
Tajol
Megat
Sallehin
Engku Malek
Ismail Abu
Selvaraju
Kelvinder Singh
.....who else I missed out?
I watched the last match day of the MHL decider that coincided with the tournament and they were around with their teams. So, how could the National seniors or the MHL first teamers go?

I know my facts
Kid,
I was not insulting HK and Singapore (I didn't mean it too), I was just surprised to know the level of the Malaysian development team when comparing to Singapore and Hong Kong seniors.
But the facts were correct, the Malaysian did send a team averaging below 20 years old. To test that fact, can you name me the 7 first teamers that played?
And Korea too sent a "Development" team. I was told that it was their University champion team that represented Korea. (Their seniors just came back from the Rabo Trophy)

Singapore Tournament
Don't know why all target always on Hong Kong. We just got a full time coach couple of months ago, there was not training at all for the national team. Beside, HK players got their full-time job as compare with Malaysia, Singapore and Korea. Yes, you may reply that the team were not professional as well. But they all trained for a long time or perhaps develop for long time. Come on guys, be positive and support hockey not stepping other team. What happen if Hong Kong Hockey Assocation fired the coach because of the result...and HK will not participate in any international tournament. Is this what you want to see?

A very biased report by Mr Bach has started all this. Nobody wants HK to fire the coach or not play hockey. But please get the facts correct both Malaysia and Korea sent devlopment sides nothing close to there National Team, HK should not be worried about the matches against Korea or Malaysia but the result against Singpore where they drew. HK has beaten Singapore for the past few years. Maybe more time is needed but at the end of the day HK finished last and should be thinking about how they can improve, and Mr Bach whilst writing hockey reports is good this was a very bad piece of writng and not correct. Good luck to both Singapore and HK it is always good to see more teams playing high level hockey.

observer, perhaps you should "observe" or learn to read, this article before you critcise Mr Bach, namely paragraph 5 where is says "Malaysia and Korea sent 2nd string sides"...
.not sure what is bad here, as its written for HK web-sites and PLH picked up the story from there I guess.
Go Hong Kong, you stuffed malaysia...ha ha ha

Good work big Kev. Kevin is an excellent coach who is extremely thorough and committed.
Good on you Hong Kong. It would seem to me that whenever you step on the pitch it doesn't matter who is in the teams, it's the result that counts. If big countries such as malaysia send "hastlily arranged" inferior teams, then that is their buisness and doesn't lessen Hong Kongs result.

You are wrong and I can read Mr Bach says CLAIM to have sent second string sides and then goes on the say HK played well against the 4th ranked team in Asia the 4th ranked team in Asia was not there as Malaysia sent a development side. I just feel the article is badly written and as with any writer Mr Bach may have to take some criticism nothing personal against him.

It should be noted that it was a 2nd strong Hong Kong side too!!!! Missing its goal keeper and playing the 2nd keeper who had a torn hamstring....also missing for midfielders, Tom Ayres, Asif Ali and Alfonzo Corderio...
Well done HK and these Malaysia insults suck!!!

ACG
Not bothered about the debate about 2nd string sides or development....same old same old... but the point Simon makes about the All China Games is good, and should be brought to public attention-Hong Kong's own sporting body has denied Hong Kong the chance of medal contention at the ACG purely because of RACISM. On what grounds are they setting the policy of only allowing ethnic Chinese to represent HK at the games? All the players representing Hong Kong's regular side should be permitted to play-who cares that they are not ethnic Chinese-China has no problem with the likes of Chris Marshall or Arif Ali being present. What is even more ridiculous is that they are quite happy to have mainland table tennis players representing the territory WHO AREN'T EVEN FROM HONG KONG!!!! The fact is that the majority of the ethnic Chinese players in HK are poor and do not deserve the honour of representing HK hockey. Having represented HK at the previous ACG I can tell you that HK were a shambles and I felt embarassed to be present with a side who weren't even able to beat Macau. The policy reeks of racism and the sporting body in HK should be ashamed. The saddest thing is that were this not the case HK would have a chance to go and show that they are a good side as they did at the last AHF cup.

bad article
How could the writer say the week was successful and the coach is such a big success when they:
Lost to the Korean (2nd string) team?
Drew the Malaysian Development team?
Drew Singapore?
As Observer said, the article was badly written.... I agree on that
Nevertheless I wish HK and Singapore Hockey success in the future
