Qormi HC have won the Indoor Hockey League after defeating reigning Champions Rabat HC 4-3. It was a highly contested match full of drama from the start in which the Greens emerged rightful winners. A win was the only result available for Paul Brincat's men in order to triumph because Rabat HC were 2 points ahead in the standings.

The match started with a one minute's silence in respect of Emma Housley who tragically lost her life last Sunday. The game had a very high tempo from the start with both teams in search of an early goal. It was Rabat HC however who drew first blood when Aquilina received in the Dee and his deflected flick ended up in the net. Their lead was however short lived because Qormi HC equalised when Chris Bugeja fired in the net following good work form Philip Magri. Soon after Joseph Cuschieri made it 2-1 in favour of the Greens but Rabat HC immediately replied when Bugeja converted a penalty stroke. In the final minutes of the first half, Qormi HC went once again in the lead when Chris Bugeja netted his double and enabled his team to lead at the interval.

In the second half, Qormi HC tried to absorb the pressure that Rabat HC were creating but this resulted in a lot of short corners being conceded. It was from a short corner that Rabat drew level when Falzon powered his flick in the Qormi goal. At 3-3 Rabat were on course to winning their 3rd Indoor Hockey League especially when they were awarded another penalty stroke. Bugeja stepped up once again but this time he saw Qormi HC keeper Ramon Chircop save well to his left. This was to be a turning point in the match because if Rabat had scored, the Greens would have needed to score 2 goals in the final minutes in order to triumph. The penalty save gave hope to the Qormi players and Chris Bugeja scored his 3rd goal from a well taken short corner by Stephen Tanti to put Qormi back in the lead. In the final seconds, Chircop had to be at his best once again when he denied Micallef with a low save and soon after the umpires signalled the end of the match. This was the first time Qormi HC have won the Indoor Hockey League and this victory augurs well for the forthcoming season.
