Pakistan: PHF offers lucrative prize money in Super Hockey League

A total cash prize of Rs 5.2 million will be offered in Pakistan’s first ever PSO Super Hockey League starting at the Hockey Club of Pakistan Stadium Karachi from September 8, said Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) secretary general Musarrat Ullah Khan during a press conference here on Friday.

He said six hockey teams including six players from India were taking part in the 11-day competition. “Rs one million will be presented to the winners while the runners-up will get Rs 500,000. Third, fourth, fifth and sixth position holders will earn Rs 300,000, Rs 200,000, Rs 150,000 and Rs 100,000 respectively.” Musarrat said appearance fee would be given to the Indian but not to the Pakistani players. “Each Indian player will receive $2500.”

Musarrat said the PHF had also been able to get sponsorship for all the participating teams. “Sindh Qalandars is sponsored by Sui Southern Gas (SSG). Muslim Commercial Bank (MCB) is the sponsor of Shan-e-Punjab. Pakistan Telecommunication Ltd (PTCL) has agreed to sponsor Frontier Falcons. Pakistan Petroleum Ltd (PPL) is the sponsor of Baloch Lions. Northern Cavaliers will be sponsored by Saudi Pak Commercial Bank and National Bank of Pakistan (NBP) is sponsoring Capital Dynamos.”

Indian captain Dilip Tirkey will represent Sindh Qalandars led by Ahmed Alam. Penalty corner expert Sandeep Singh has been included in Shan-e-Punjab whose captain is Muhammad Saqlain. Goalkeeper Adrian D’Souza will represent Baloch Lions led by Muhammad Sarwar. Northern Cavaliers will have services of Arjun Halapa. Muhammad Nadeem ND is the captain of this team. Frontier Falcons, led by Raheem Khan, will have services of Viren Resquinah. Gagan Ajit Singh will play for Capital Dynamos to be captained by Mudassar Ali Khan.

PTV’ s head of sales Imran Ansari said the Super Hockey League would be televised live on satellite and terrestrial network. “It is part of PTV efforts to promote our national game. The event will be seen in 52 countries. As a state owned channel, we are bound to promote our national game,” added Imran. Federal Minister of Sports will inaugurate the event while Governor Sindh will be the chief guest at the prize distribution ceremony on September 18.
