The Malaysian development team began on a winning note in a four-nation meet in Singapore, beating South Korea 3-1 at the Delta Hockey Stadium here.

The Malaysians are playing in the tournament with a makeshift team of juniors, who were only assembled under coach Sarjit Singh on Tuesday night.

The Malaysians scored their goals through Mohamed Amerullah (9th, 40th) and Mohamed Fairuz Hamsani (68th). The Koreans, who are also here with their development team, scored their goal in the 42nd minute.

Malaysia's other opponents in tournament are Hong Kong and the home side.

In another match, hosts Singapore drew 1-1 with Hong Kong.
