DUMB OR MISQUOTED?
Either this guy is really dumb or is misquoted by the media! No other explanation.
Failing to admit to failures and mistakes is the first sure step to future failures. This guy is in denial!
Rajinder, stop with the comments and put on your thinking cap. A good coach is one who is seen to produce results and not heard making innane remarks.
You have a good team. But the team is rudderless and uninspired because they lacked leadership, strategy and encouragement.
All coaches devise strategies to enhance the team's strength and implement gameplans to prevent exposing their weaknesses. And all teams have weaknesses for the opponents to exploit.
Show me a coach who blames his players after a poor showing and I'll show you a weak leader! Be a man, take the heat, standby your team and learn from this failure to rise again!
Above all, let your deeds speak for you and not your poorly chosen excuses.
Lastly, I am certain that the Indian team has it in them to produce better results. From now to the CT you have about 3 months. Do serious introspection. Involve all players in this exercise. Invite advice from the famed and learned. Identify weak areas that need shoring and also the chinks in the opponents gameplan. Implement strategy and methods to eliminate the mistakes and faults. Instill hard work and discipline. Intropsection again...and repeat the cycle until yoy do succeed.
We are still with you and I personally shall be in Madras watching the metamorphosis of change.

Gagan - Senior Player
One of the senior players mentioned being responsible for poor show is Gagan.
I have not seen these matches so not that sure he might be out of form in this tournament but I think Gagan needs good supporters/schemers like Pillay and Dhillon to score goals. It is like Kamran Ashraf of Pakistan scored many goals when Shahbaz and Tahir were playing but he failed after them. This is, upto certain degree, true for every centre forward playing in Asian style that they need good inside forwards to create chances for them.
Any comments please.
Thank you.

Defeatist attitude
Is loosing by smaller margins improvement. The next loss Rajinder will say the players trapped better so there again is improvement? Have we set our hockey standards to the level where we are now are to except irrelevent achievements and medicore performance as pathbreaking improvements.
Also on what basis did he expect a podium finish when he has virtually no experiance of international hockey and the practical analysis of the opposing teams since he last played 20 yrs ago. I don't blame him for accepting the job as coach (who doesn't want to be India's coach) but be realistic and shut your trap.
And wonder what good comes from is long training camps - player burnout probably.

Same old story continue.............
EVEN after CT either the coach will get removed
or some players axed to shift the blame for poor performance.
Let's put it straight a junior or senior player should pass a stringent fitness test, to get into indian team
IHF pls realise this the game is no more only "dribbling" it is game of explosive speed , power etc.....
Do some thing fast before hockey is forgotten in india.

usual bull about "dribbling"
I am fed up with this BS about too much dribbling and ball play by indians, I just don't see it..
I mean, seriously, how many good dribblers are there in the current indian team (after B Dhillon)? All of them play fast hocky, running like hares, forgetting to carry the ball.
From what I have seen in the last two years on TEN sports and fieldhockey.tv, even teams like germany have better ball players than india, forget Australia and Pakistan.
I think it's time to get back to the basics, yeah, DRIBBLING, and of course, trapping.

To Ex UETian
You are right about Gagan. He has class and is a striker who needs good schemers to feed him. Unfortunately he has been out of competitive international hockey and hope he works on his game and basics. Like Sutar pointed out India currently has no strong ball player cum schemer a la Dhillon, Pillay, Riaz, Felix so the midfield looks empty.
India cap must not come easy and players should be made to earn their place in the team with consistant performance. Sameer Dad gave strong performance in the Premier League and was surprisingly ignored. Agreed he has not delivered for India in the past and lacks the pace to be a true forward but his experiance can be used in this schemer position along with others like Girish Pimple.

Dear Somit
Coaches make Players.. but yeah Decent and Professional Coaches have the knack to make great players..
U ask me to name one.. ill name a few... Rajinder Singh Sr was the reason for Devesh being so good.. also for creating the ever fightin Viren.
I also think the "madhouse" guy Gerhard Rach was the main reason for Adrian and Xalxo becoming World class players.. u temme one guy who knew these talented guyz b4 the Oly's and today they are critical elements in the team..
No one guarantees tht the Juniors will weave magic and win India games and silverware...
BUT have TO ADMIT UR STATEMENT THAT THE JRS DID NOT EVEN REACH THE FINALS AND HENCE ARE ORDINARY PLAYERS IS THE MOST APPALING COMMENT I HAVE READ FOR SOME TIME.. HAVE TO ADMIT..
Either u dunt kno how to recongnise talent, dunt understand hockey.. or just Jealous cause the Juniors are so damn talented... which reason???
We dunt need an extra ordinary player Somit.. wat we need is a player who kno's his basic, gives his 100% and plays consistently...
Somit players like Vinay, Vivek, Hari are class and can make it to the Senior team today on merit.. i dunt say this but past Olympians and hockey greats also say.. infact i have spoken to a few and do do say tht the Junior team was good.. DId u watch any game other than the SPain one.. dunt think so... i did and the performace was worth applauding..
Pretty sad that they did not win a medal but that has spurred the boyz to win more... and they are a much more committed bunch than the present Senior guyz... i BET!!
So i say shut ur gob and learn to appreciate good performance rather than deriding it wid stupid and insane comments!!

V.J.Phillips
This has reference to Mr. Phillips' request to the Union ministary to clear up the mess.
I have seen Mr.Phillips and his great brother the late Mr.V J Peter play several times at the Egmore Stadium, Madras in the 60s and early 70s.
He had fantastic turn of speed while his brother the late Mr.Peter had fabulous stick work and had uncanny passing abilities.
India did badly at Buenos Aires in 1978 under his captaincy. It could have been because of many internal squablles.
He may be right in his views...

Jharkhandi
Good points Jharkhandi. As far as I know it is correct that Rajinder and only Rajinder made Viren a player he is today. Vikram too is a product of that family.
There was a time when Viren would have been dropped for no fault of his own. People have now recognised his talent and commitment. He is one who wears the Blue Jersey with pride. (Compare with Dilawar Hussain from Pakistan).
Wrt Vinay (Product of Sommaiya Maneypande aka Coorgi School of Philosophy) the boy has a little ways to go. He will be an able replacement for Bimal Lakra ( Compare with Mudassar Ali Khan from Pakistan).
Hari still has to show me that he has any kahoonies. He still hasn't learnt to wrestle the game in his favour. This is the same problem with Tushar Khandekar ( compare to Shabbir Hussain) I wish these boys the best.
If you know Tushar please let him know that people are rooting for him but he has to show more than skill. Cannot just run around the defense and show no results for all that effort. It has to translate into goals. He has the potential to turn into a Matthais Brower or a Klaver but he has to make that eye catching effort. Lunging for the goals. Stick to stick passing. Inch perfect passes and penalty corner creations. He still has age on his side but not for very long!!!

Yeah Jugraj the silver bullet
Ankit, It is unlikely Jugraj or any one person is going to make a huge difference to this team. I am sorry but I just detest what sounds like hero worship. Having said that I hope he is at a sufficient level that 1) India has more than 1 drag flicking option on the field in any given game, and 2) Kanwalpreet plays less so fewer corners are given.

I agree with stick up. Girish pimpale is good option as a schemer. He got good skills, speed and that selfless game for the team that even seniors from our team lack.
I will go for him...give him a fair chance. Ihope IHF shows right attitude towards selecting the team ..

I pitty u for ur helplessness in promoting ur baseless knowledge.i will now suggest u to keep ur mouth shutt tt t and not talk or send ur clearifications again.god bless indian hockey from people like u ..keep it up and keep misguiding players and hockey lovers.

Rajinder is no better than any of the many stooges appointed by Gill.
Why do we have such incompetent people in charge. Any half-witted coach can unite the team by PICKING the best 16 in the country- regardless of region etc.
Rajinder has no management skills, he cant communicate with the players and as is the norm for all Indian coaches, he has no plan/ strategy AT ALL!!!
What is the point of these stupid camps??? What goes on there? The players don't learn a thing in tactics, tackling, fitness etc. Complete waste of time. Yet before and after the next 'doomed' tournament this will be the pattern:
1. 40 players chosen ( by the 'Gill') ...at random. Kanwalpreet is assured a place.
2. Players turn up a day or two late.
3. Rajinder will comment on their brilliant form. Also all the weaknesses/ grey areas will have been ironed out.
4. We are 'eyeing' a podium ( used to be 'gold' until about 1992)
5. India lose the first game without putting up a fight.
6. India lose 2nd game without putting up a fight. No cirlce penetrations & no PCs won, but 12 given away. 9 by Kanwalpreet alone.
7. Rajinder (or whoever the coach is) blasts seniors
8. Rajinder ( or his replacement) denies blaming seniors/ forwards
9. India loses 3rd game without putting...you know the story.
10. India come last in the tournament. Players blame the coach for lack of direction. Also blame the coach for not teaching them to trap, tackle, run...think...try...Coach blasts umpires. Rest of the world laugh.
11. Captain says 'we let the fans down'. But wants to remain in the team...so blames forwards for missing goals 'within' the D.
12. Repeat this for 30 years
13. Gill wins elections
14. Kothikumaran get lots of trips
15. Fans wait for a miracle

May I add a few points?
Between points 6 and 7....
8. Coach and players hype up the next match, which is, of course, against Pakistan
9. Whole Indian nation rejoices because surely now redemption and a chance to save face are assured.
10. Rehan Butt scores...once..twice....make it three for good measure?
11. Pakistan beats India....as they have in the last 14 matches
12. People cry for return of Dhanraj
13. All Indian Punjabis now root for Pakistan to win it all (which is a good thing, actually). The southerners curse both Indian punjabis and Pakistanis in general. People start to feel better after having done so....
14. Pakistanis gloat over the victory and then proceed to....
14. lose matches to everyone else, including minnows of the hockey world. Both Pakistani and Indian fans now root for Korea, the last Asian hope.
15. only to realize that the Koreans are not even in the tournament or have already been knocked out
16. Both sides curse each other for not achieving anything...and then proceed to change the channel and look for India vs. Pakistan in cricket......

You are too pessimistic about Pakistan. I know they have mesesed up since 1994, but at least your team puts up a good fight & you have excellent players. There is plenty of hope for Pakistan.
India on the other hand have been pretty useless for ages. We had a good 2003...but since then we have slid back alarmingly.

Adrian D'souza
The credit for making Adrian D'souza a good goalie will go to Frank Leistra, the former World Cup and Olympic goalkeeper of Holland.
It was Leistra's untiring efforts at the Leverkusen camp prior to the Athens OG which sharpened Adrian. Of course, it was Rach who brought Leistra for this.
Leistra used to drive up and down daily from Holland to Germany for the goalkeeper training.

Dear Somit!! SENIORS LOSE TO JUNIORS FRESH NEWS.10 MINS BACK1-2
Master Dina Nath has put up wat i was to say.. It was frank liestra who has made Adrian wat he is.. there are no two ways abt it..
but the key point here is if it was Rajinder Sr at the helm .. whom wud u play.. a young 20 year old wid a handful of senior games or a senior goalie who has loads and loads of experience and is due for the OG after sitting out the last edition as an understudy...
Dude many wud have gone for the latter but not Mr.Rach.. he went for the gamble and found a diamond.. a player who will serve India for many a years ..whose deidcation and committment are second to none..
even now the Indian coaches are scared to play any1 else than devesh.. u kno i have seen Bahrat play and he is good.. but very seldom given an oppurutnity.. why?? may be if Rajidner Sr had given him a chance he also wud have done his duty for the country.. not taking anythng away from Devesh.. but his consistency can be questioned..??? eh???
I too demand answers frm the IHF? Get a betta coach? Betta facilities?? Did any1 read abt Rajpal carryin his fracture all d way frm Holland!! How appaling??? SAD!!!
Mind u.. we all are responsible.. sometimes i have seen the players play will ZERO interest... SU**Z... for heavens sake ur donning the Indian COlours.. there are thousands who dream of wearing them.. but??? they consider themselves STARS?? they hail frm the Hockey Fraternity?? who will question them?? Even if they beat ppl around they kno they will back...!!!! right eh????
For once i ask ... give me a unbiased team.. a committed set of guyz and u c what will happen...
The 2004 CT in pakistan was a downer cause the young gunz did not have enuf exposure... u play them today adn they have improved...
JUST TO PUSH MY POINT THE INDIAN JUNIORS HAVE JUST 10 MINUTES BACK BEATEN THE SENIORS 2-1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now wat eh???
@Jharkhand
