Pakistan coach Asif Bajwa on Monday gave full credit to his goalkeeping coach Shahid Ali Khan for the 4-3 victory over Olympic champions Australia in the Rabo Bank Hockey Tournament.

Speaking after the title win, Bajwa said Pakistan had a bad first half, which Australia dominated. “But we came back strongly in the second half scoring superb goals. I am thankful that goalkeeper Salman Akbar had a fantastic match and we were able to keep the scoreline at 4-3 till the end of the match.''

Incidentally, all the three coaches, Asif Bajwa, Rana Mujahid and Shahid Ali Khan were part of the team that last won a final in Holland in 1992, in which they had beaten the hosts in the BMW Cup.

Speaking on the future of the team, both Bajwa and Mujahid said that Champions Trophy was not their target. “We are looking at doing well in the 2006 World Cup in Germany,'' said Mujahid. “That is our real target and not the Champions Trophy in Chennai,'' he said.

Bajwa said the team was experimenting in Hamburg in the four-nation Masters and also here in Amstelveen. “It will take us a little time before we finally settle down to the final 20-24 players that will figure for the 2006 World Cup. We will take a break and then reassemble with a new programme.''

Shahid said the programme for the goalkeepers was aimed at making them the best goalkeepers in the world. “The Europeans have always been good in that department and now we are striving to be the best. Salman was very good against Australia in the final and we all hope he continue improving his performance.''

Pakistani Goal Keepers
It is true that Pakistan have always the best goal keepers in the world. I started to watch hockey from 1988. And as far as i rememberd SHAHID ALI KHAN (Present Coach) was one of the best goal keeper of his time. Then came the Mansoor Ahmed and all hockey viewers might know that he was hero in 1994 Champions Trophy (Lahore) and then Sydney World Cup when he stopped penality strokes in sudden death round. After Mansoor Ahmed Aalam also performed very well against dutch penality corner specialists in many matches. Muhammad Qasim also got chance in some of the tournaments and he proved that he is also very talented. Now a days he is suffering from lung cancer and we all pray for his good health. Salman Akbar (from Government College Lahore , also my college) at a very young age proved that he is the best now. All congratulations to Salman Akbar and Coach Shahid Ali Khan. And yes our aggressive captain Saqlain deserves the congratulations. I request him to be bit cool.................. because we want to see Saqlain playing for many years in future.

Absolute Rubbish
Come on guys, its a known fact that Ian Taylor was the finest goalkeeper the world has ever seen. He was the world No1 for well over 15 years, to suggest otherwise is just utterly riddiculous. Therefore Mr Waseem I advise that your memory is not what you think it is.

I am really surprised by your Rubbish Comment ( atleast you must indicate your name Mr.Memory....................) .If Ian Taylor was the best Goalkeeper then it does not mean that all other Goal Keepers were not best. Mr.Memory, have you forgotten the saves made by Mansoor in 1994 Champions Trophy and Sydney WC. He was the hero of Pakistan in that World Cup. Shahid Ali Khan performed so well against Dutch and German Penality Corner Specialists like Fischer etc. I think you should increase your knowlege of Hockey and broaden your mind and also open your eyes to see that there are some Good Goalkeepres in this world. And also it is good for you to take some injections to avoaid any further consequences of Rubbishiness. Because i think you are suffering from this disease Mr. Memory...................

Do you even read what you are writing ?
'' It is true that Pakistan have always the best goal keepers in the world'' is a nonsense remark. But then '' If Ian Taylor was the best Goalkeeper then it does not mean that all other Goal Keepers were not best. '' Do you require a defenition of the word BEST or just a comparison between BEST and VERY GOOD ???? You say that you started watching hockey in 1988, well then you should recall that in that very year IT was awarded keeper of the tournament to accompany his Olympic GOLD . If something is the best that means that there is nothing better. I re itterate, IAN TAYLOR WAS THE FINEST KEEPER THIS WORLD HAS EVER SEEN .... FACT !

I look forward to reviewing your '' further consequences of rubbishness '' as soon as you dream up another riddiculous nonsense filled response . Good Day to you.
