Muhammad Shafiq, Pakistan junior hockey team’s manager, will submit his report on the national team’s disappointing performance in the Junior World Cup (held in Holland last month) to the secretary Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) on Saturday (today). Pakistan finished poor seventh in the World Cup.
This report has great significance as the Senate Standing Committee on Sports has directed the PHF to explain why Pakistan performed so poorly in the junior event. Following a meeting of the Senate Committee on July 27, the PHF was also asked to give in writing the corrective measures it had adopted after Pakistan team’s performance graph continued to dip. The Senate Committee is now due to meet in Islamabad on Monday. Shafiq, who is also PHF director domestic, told Daily Times that in his report he had highlighted the main reasons of Pakistan’s poor performance despite getting all the facilities prior and during the tournament.
