INDIA ENTERS FINAL AS PROMISED BY COACH
TRUE TO HIS WORDS COACH RAJINDER JUNIOR HAS DELIVERED THAT INDIA HAS QUALIFIED FOR THE FINAL POSITION IN THE LEAGUE.
WHAT NEEDS TO BE SEEN IS WHETHER HE WILL DELIVER ON ACHEVEING THE FINAL POSITION OF THE TOURNAMENT.
GREAT JOB COACH. YOU DESERVE TO BE RETAINED FOR 4 YEARS AS YOU WANT.
GILL AND JOTHI WILL BE SACKED AS THEY WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SENIORS NOT PLAYING UPTO THE MARK.
THE PLAYERS OFCOURSE ARE TO BE ENCOURAGED AND SUPPORTED FOR PLAYING SO WELL. THEY DESERVE TO BE PERSISTED WITH SO THAT THEY CAN CONSISTENTLY PLAY LIKE THIS FOR THE COUNTRY.
I END HOPING I COULD HAVE THE HEART OF HARRY SINGH AGAIN. BUT MY HEART IS DEAD BECAUSE OF LOVING HOCKEY SO MUCH, THAT SUCH BRILLIANT PERFORMANCES BREAKS MY HEART

Wow!
Pakistan's 13th win over India in last 17 meetings since Jan 2004. A dam good record for Pakistan.
I hope Indians will not fire their coach in middle of the tournament. Pakistan's win also confirmed a bottom spot for India in Pool A and seventh/eights finish in the tournament.
But I am sure Indian media will once again come up with some (lame) excuses for the loss.
How come Rehan did not score this time?

Sad day for Indian hockey.

No Pride
Its funny how everything can change over a course of time. Once upon a time it was the mighty India, so talented, so tough, so proud.
And today India's field hockey is opitomy of a shame. Always so much hope yet little as far as results.
Do our players and coaches collectively feel any shame in the results posted over the past 30 years.
Why can't you even win India? Why can't you do it one more time?

Terrible Team India
I watched the match on Ten Sports and was wondering if this is an India Team the way they Played. Even a School team would have played better. Except Viren all others even failed to stop the ball. The only way to shape the team again for the Good sake of Indian Hockey is to bring back Danraj and have him play for another 4 years. I am wondering if Devinder pal is a hockey player and why Din't coach Play Rajpal Singh. I think Gagan, Hallapa and Prabjot should be thrown out. India should bring the policy win the match and get the Match fee payed else this Damm Indian Hockey will die. I am waiting for the team to be thrashed by the public in Chennai Champions trophy.

India- Worst performance
This Indian team is one of the worst in recent times. And i firmly believe that they will be the worst team at the champions trophy in chennai this year.
With no strategy and ( Individual abilities are under great doubt) midfield which is always non existent what can they hope for.
1.Bimal Lakra - Biggest fool in the team.
2.Ravipal - Shifarshi player
3.Prabhdeep Singh - Doesnt know how to hold a hockey stick. what will he play.
4.Prabhjot Singh- Bandana king.good for nothing.....always gets stuck
5.ignace tirkey - Running backwards than forward
6.Gagan Ajit- crying as always.......he is no longer his old self.
List is endlessssssssssss.........................................
i appreciate devesh Chauhan and kanwalpreet who played well otherwise India would have lost 6-0, 8-0 to spain and pakistan....
KPS gill is a mad ******* who has gone psycho and i will only watch Indian hockey after KPS gill is kicked out.
Malaysia are coming to India in september and will blow the brains out of the indians.
Just mark my words................God save Indian Hockey.

Indian hockey sucks real big time and all supporters should not watch and pray, indian loose all their future mataches so KPS GILL AND JYOTHI gets sacked. The professional hockey players should run the organization. Indian hockey is dead. I hope we do not even qualify for the olympics till kps gill and his stooges are out. The players drink alcohol before the matches, what a display of heath and discipline...Indian basketball team and boxers are a better deal to watch anyways.

Yet another spineless display by the Indian team - after watching them play one feels that some drastic changes need to be made as soon as possible. One wonders why players like Sameer Dad and Lazarus Barla are not in the team.
The team really needs someone like Dhanraj Pillay to inspire them - they seem to be playing without any motivation or determination. It is really a crying shame that a great player like Dhanraj Pillay is not playing for the country. Why cant the matter (his differences with the IHF) be sorted out and he play again, soon? The sad part is that he is not growing younger and as each day passes, the chances of his playing for India lessen.
And what about Jugraj Singh? Some months back, he made a reentry on the domestic circuit and even scored some goals - why isnt anyone talking about him now?
For the next tournament, I guess some of the promising juniors will be included in the team and that will give it some more bite. Probably a psychologist should also be with the future teams to up their mental toughness and approach.
I for one still have hope in Indian hockey, and one of the things that could help in the revival is the Champions Trophy to be held in Chennai later this year.

Indian hockey not dead
The Indians could not have forgotten how to play hockey. Just two years back at this very ground, India played such a fantastic match against Pakistan (7-4) and Holland (3-4, after leading 3-0). And Pakistan were a strong side then, especially with Sohail and Wasim Ahmed. And when you compare India today and then, you clearly can see where the problem lies. The strong point in India then was the presence of Dhanraj, Dhillon, Vikram Pillay and Jugraj. At least three of them are still worthy of a place in the team - about Jugraj I don't know nor does the IHF feel the need to inform the public. I'm sorry for myself that I had to name that non-entity (IHF).
What I mean is, you can't throw out a good player because you have differences with him - rather you must sort out the differences and that is what makes a great management. And a capable and worthy MANAGEMENT is what India never had. Once they have a capable MANAGEMENT, the right team will automatically be picked.
Germany, Holland, Australia, etc. do not have even a fraction of talent that is available in India. But they have a MANAGEMENT SET-UP that is capable of picking and preparing the best of the available talent.
Finally, I challenge Mr. Jyothikumaran and KPS Gill to appear at a hockey venue like Amstelveen and sit amidst the Indian fans and watch a high profile meeting like the
Rabo trophy or even better the Champions trophy in Chennai. After a drubbing, they should then hold a press conference and analyse the team's performance for the fans.
They are always hiding themselves unlike the officials of other teams. Because they know that they are the main culprits.
I know it is the team that has to play and win, but unless the best and NON-SIFARSHI players are picked, the team can only go from worse to dogs.

Save INDIAN Hockey !!!!!!!!!!!----------
I pray that some body should step in to save the national game.
Gill and co should resign . i am sure the team is not selected on
basis of performance.
how come not a single player is there from states LIke T.nadu who do so well in nationals....and big tournaments
and even in recent past had players like thirumalvalvan, riaz....
common man
dont tell me there r not good players....
Tell me one reason how the team will perform well.
1) best players not selected
2) no coaching based on scientific techniques and tactics
tell me when did we last beat a int team of repute may be i can think of sydney
olympics when we beat spain...
take players like gagan who r just playing for individual glory
what abt "prabjot singh " the "Ajit Agarkar" of indian hockey give him a million chance and still
he wont perform
Kanwalpreet singh who i am sure would fail any fitness test..
pls take players who perform.....on the field , hire a foriegn coach ,
let me tell u this indian team
I am pretty sure this indian team would not be able even to a beat a 1st division australian or german team....common man
lets accept this fact and save hockey.......
what hype about champions trphy...
There is no realistic chance of beating a single nation in the cup

I also recommend Indian fans to stop attending hockey matches. And for god's sake, lets find a new sport.

Indian hockey has gone fart
To me Indian hockey is basically down the drains. Four years ago, India won the Junior World Cup in Hobart, Tasmania and today these same batch of players should have won major tournaments like the Olympics in Athens last year and the Champions Trophy.
Players like Gagan Ajit Singh, Prabhjot Singh, Dalip Tirkey and few others were in the Junior team and by now they should have improved their game tremendously and dominate the hockey in the World.
But sad to say, after winning the Junior World Cup, the players think they are the stars and behavious like they are the gods in hockey. Of moving forward and playing much better for the senior team they are playing their worst game.
India have the population of more than a billion people and so many hockey academics throughout the country and still they rely on the same players for tournaments after tournaments.
I am surprised that some even suggest that veteran forward Dhanraj Pillay should be called up to beef the Indian forward-line. Dhanraj time as a national player is over. If people like Dhanraj is asked to make the comeback then I suggest why not call-up the 1975 World Cuppers like Ajitpal Singh, Ashok Kumar, Vijay Philips to make a return to play for the national team.
Changing of coaches is not gone to help Indian national hockey team. But Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) must note that the national team must change their style of play and must also learn why Australia, Holland, Germany, Spain, Argentina and South Korea have made tremendous progress in hockey.
India still rely on dribbling three and four player to get into the D to score while European team rely on long passes and throw ball into the open gaps so that their forwards can collect the ball and score from top D.
Indian players still don't use the no offside rule to their fullest and are not confident in scoring once in the D. It's also surprise to see why players are forcing the ball through so many defenders and hoping all the players will miss the ball so that their forwards can score.
Pls grow up and learn from mistakes after mistakes. If the national players are not playing up their mark then they should not be called for training. Ask them to stay at home and help their wives to do the house work.
Enough is enough with the IHF and Indian national team. Change your ways before u guys go on to the field wearing the Indian national team. If cannot deliver on the field then stay home and help your wives to deliver babies.

Why..sameer dad, lazarus barla, girish pimpale are not in the team..
Just because This Punjabi Coach doesn't like them.
If this is continued till next couple of years then Hockey in india will be dead not due to lack of player's potential but because of the politics.

Come on Guys !!!
I am more saddened by the comments of the fans than the result itself. A true fan sticks to his team in all seasons. I think it is time for both India and Pakistan to reclaim their dominance in hockey. This can only be accomplished by a long-term strategy (say 3 years). We need to develop a solid plan, find the right talent without sifaarish, and then execute. I will blame extensive focus on cricket that has caused the demise of hockey to a great extent. We should not forget that it is our national game. We can be a dominating force once again and one important component is fans support no matter what the outcome of a match or a tournament is. Let us stop bashing each other (PAK or IND) and focus on the big picture.

If Rajinder sr. didn't know what to speak (all he ever talked was "grey areas" like penarly corners and of course, attacking hockey), this Rajinder Jr. doesn't know when to stop. After the third loss he said senior players should quit playing (Deepak, Gagan, and Prabhjot).
I don't know about the pakistan line-up in Rabo, but if Mudassar, Wasim, Rehan are there, it's definitely a superior team. Winning against Spain and germany is not easy, and u don't have players like Adrian, Vikram, Xalco. Nothing to really get pis*ed about, except perhaps the forwards' performance.
I just don't see why Rajinder predicted a podium finish, on what basis ??

Don't argue over which player should go
Okay so far most of the posts have a common theme. Everyone has been suggesting who should play, who sucks, and so on. You could almost taste the bias that the South Indians have against Punjabi player and the bias the Punjabi's have against the South Indian players.
To all of you out there complaining about who should be selected, who is no good and who is good, listen to what I have to say.
Over the past 30 years, there hasn't been a single Indian team that has made us proud (other than 1980 olympics which was boycotted by Pakistan, Australia, Holland, Germany, Britain etc so who cares). So who the hell cares which players were selected for this tour.
Many have suggested Dhanraj Pillay should have gone. I think this guy is useless for a centre forward and leader. Other than his 7 goal performance in 1994 world cup, he never done anything significant in a major international tournament.
So stop suggesting which player should go and should not go, and figure out what we as a country can do to improve as a TEAM.

India were their usual selves. I wish the Indian media ( eg Thyagarajan) painted a truer picture of how bad the team is. Our 'top' players are very ordinary indeed. We have had 2 really outstanding players ( Mhd. Shahid & Dhanraj) since the late 70s. That is pathetic! There have been a few others who were good, but none that gave the team real confidence & were capable of turning matches with their brilliance.
There is something very wrong with 'senior' Indian teams. They are really pathetic, yet the same players are very good in the juniors. Why is this? I know someone will state that maybe they are not really 'juniors' when they play U21 tournaments, but I think there maybe very silly politics amongst the players & the IHF are simply brilliant at stupidity in selection & wasting money on useless ventures ( training at Arizona before the Olys, commando camps, etc).
Pakistan on the other hand are still a very good team. Today they thrashed Germany 5-0! That's a great result & puts them in the final against Australia. At the very least they are competitive. India are a laughing stock & should not be considered seriously.

There is no doubt that India is so much bigger country than Pakistan but quantity does not matter, quality does matter and there is no doubt that Pakistani Hockey team is much better than Indian hockey, the prove is the last ten years results. Pakistani hockey team stayed always in top four teams but indian team most of the time at bottom. Indian hockey team's assistant coach is the one who never played any international game......isn't a joke with indian hockey team?? Who could imagine to change a team's coach during a tournament excpet indian hockey federation?

Keep it up in the final
I think its a long way back when Pakistan qualified for the final of any major tournament.
The team should not be so much excited as it is not the end of journey and Pakis have to prove their capabilities in the final. In the recent years it has been noted that Pakis failed to deliver in those matches which count the most. I hope that this time the boys are in full flow and they will perform well in the final where Australia is waiting for them. I do belive that final will be the real test of nerves for the teams and the team which will control its nerves will take the trophy. Any way my best wishes and prays for Pakistani team that they will not miss the crown this time.

The porblem is the way management works and the wway team is selected.
Gill, Jyoti, and Rajinder (who favoured their own palyers at the cost of national interest) .
Indian goverment should look into the matter.
if these continues for next 3 years , that will sure affect the confidence of deserving players who don't get chance.

I am not sure if the inclusion of Sohail Abbas ( apparently retired from hockey but still playing domestic hockey in Pakistan) or Waseem Ahmed will strengthen or benefit Pakistan Hockey.
Often right team combinations rather than inclusion of star players helps establishing a winning formula. I hope PHF sticks with this team for atleast one more tournament (something more meaningful like the champions trophy) ans see what they are really made of.
Any comments?

LMAO @ OSMANIX - EAT YOUR WORDS MAN
I CANT BELIEVE IT MY SELF BUT WE HAVE WON THE TROPHY. THIS IS THE BEST NEWS FROM PAKISTAN HOCKEY FOR A LONG TIME. BEATING INDIA IS ALWAYS SATISFYING BUT WINNNING THE TROPHY SHOULD BE OUR NUMBER 1 PRIORITY REGARDLESS OF INDIA.
PAKISTAN ZINDABAD!

good performance by pak but not enough
I don even remember the last time pakistan won a title...winning Robo Trophy is a good news...i'm so happy with the result(without sohail abbas).....
unlike cricket team our hockey team is more consistent as you see they keep defeating india since the start of 2004.
I donno what happened to indian team. they were not that bad... n getting 7th position is not good news for their hockey fans....
i hope pakistan will keep showing the same performance in the future...

Congrats Pakistan
Well done pakistan......2 out of 3 asian teams finish amongst top 4.
India have nothing to loose. no one to blame but themselves.
India has not been world beaters for over 2 decades now and things dont seem to improve at all.
Even if KPS gill goes...how will the standard improve
WILL GAGN AJIT , PRABHJOT, DEEPAK START SCORING GOALS ONCE THE MANAGEMENT IS CHANGED.
I fail to understand why cant India realise the mistakes and mend them.
And the media doesnt pay ant attention as well .Which justifiesm nthat the media is after money not national interests.
Like the bloody Stupid Asia vs Africa cricket series ( both teams sponsored by the big money Indian cos) being covered like a world cup. Aint it stupid.
Small news tucked in one corner of a pakistani victory is all what the indian media .But the pakistanis have done themselves poud and i Somehow try to connect my roots to the pakistanis as my forefathers migrated from pakistan. Some respite for a die hard fan of indian hockey..........

Relax everyone...
You are all taking my words in the wrong way...you seriously need to relax!!! Pakistan Zindabad....now can you forgive me? GEEZ!!!! If you look at all my posts from the past, you know I have nothing but love for my beautiful country PAKISTAN. When I wrote my original comments I was actually quite hurt from our Hamburg perfomance...that's all.
Once again...let's continue this winning form in Champions Trophy, InshAllah.
It's good to know Pakistan is playing 5 forwards again!!! YES!!!!

CONGRATS - PAKISTAN
THE INDIAN TEAM'S PERFORMANCE WAS A TOTAL LET DOWN - NOT JUST THE RESULTS BUT THE WAY THEY PLAYED AND GOOFED UP TOO.
VERY INTERESTING COMMENTS HAVE BEEN POSTED.
I WOULD LIKE TO JOIN MILLIONS OF HOCKEY FANS FROM THE SUB-CONTINENT IN CONGRADULATING PAKISTAN. A CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE IS A GREAT ACHIEVEMENT BY ANYBODY'S IMAGINATION, WHETHER PAKISTANI, INDIAN OR ANY ASIAN.
