England's women will face defending champions Holland in the semi-finals of the European Nations Cup on Friday after losing 1-0 to Olympic gold medallists Germany in their last group match in Dublin.
Fanny Rinne scored the only goal of the game from an 18th-minute penalty corner and that was enough to put Germany top of their pool and set up a last-four encounter against Spain, who were second in the other group.
The Dutch beat Ireland 4-0 meaning the hosts will now play Scotland, who were held 1-1 by Ukraine, in the play-offs to decide fifth to eighth place.
Linda Clement gave the Scots a 17th-minute lead from a penalty corner only for the eastern European side's Nataliya Devydenko to equalise, also from a set-piece, midway through the second half.
Coach Lesley Hobley said: "We gave it away with a sloppy short corner. It was all in our hands and we blew it."
