Scotland?s Junior Men head over to Amsterdam this weekend for a training camp and to watch some world class hockey at the Rabo Trophy 2005 where the Senior Men?s teams from Australia, England, Germany, India, Pakistan, Netherlands, Spain and South Korea will battle it out for the title.

Craig Parnham, National U21 Coach and West of Scotland Institute of Sport High Performance Coach is looking forward to the trip, suggesting that it is a fantastic opportunity for his squad to experience world class hockey. "Hopefully, they will see what is required to be the best in the world."

Training sessions at Pinoke Hockey Club will give the young squad an opportunity to practice what they have been viewing. Along with watching the games and the training sessions, Parnham will be setting workshops for his team members and is hoping to secure a session with Gold-medal winning Dutch Olympian, Remco van Wijk. Their only match of the trip will be against the Klein Zwitserland Junior team, on Sunday 21 August at 1100.

This camp is the start of the training programme that will take the Scottish Junior Men?s team into the European Junior Nations Cup ?B? Division in Gibraltar next year. From a development squad of 25, the Management team have selected 16 players to travel to Amsterdam, introducing some young players into the squad for the first time.

Andrew Sinclair (Inverleith Forrester), Phillip Rae (Edinburgh), and Donald Abbot (Western Wildcats) will be making their first U21 appearances, whilst Kenny Samson (Hillhead), Gordon Munro (Greaves Clydesdale) and Gavin Byers (Menzieshill) will have a further opportunity to prove their place in the squad.

Of his new-look squad Parnham said "This is another opportunity for us to look at our players. We have brought some younger players into the squad and this will give them good exposure at international level. We are looking at various combinations and we will be aiming to put into practice some of the things we have been recently focusing on and developing our game."

Afraid they aren't good enough for the u-21's they were called in because the 21's were short and all the u-18's were away.

they were given another chance as both played ok against wales.

gavin has potential just a bit small, but afraid alot of the squad are not good enough yet

Gav played awesome in wales and in amsterdam. In my opinion he was good enough for the under 18s but mabe did not impress at the districts. Scotland dont usualy take in to consideration players form for their clubs and just go on performances on district weekend. Its always hard selecting on 3 o 4 perfornamces alone. Furthermore jamie dwyer is only about 5 foot 6 and hes one of the best players in the world. size isnt everything
