England's men suffered a 5-1 loss to Korea in their opening Pool B match in the Rabobank Trophy in Amsterdam.
The Koreans took the lead in through Jong Hyun Jang in the 13th minute but Ben Hawes equalised nine minutes later.

But Korea added further goals from Jong Ho Seo and Seong Jung Kang before half-time - the later thanks to a questionable umpiring decision.

England had six open-play shots in the second half, but it was the Koreans who twice found the net again.

Jong Hyun Jang notched his second in the 51st minute, and Sung Min Lee completed the scoring in the 66th.

In Pool A, Spain edged India 1-0, the goal coming from Pol Amat in the 25th minute.

Jesus. What was the back 4 and who was in goal. Not asking to point any fingers, would just be interesting to know as would have thought lee would have started the opening game with his strongest team in mind?!?

6 open play shots in a half and no goal? it might have been better to play with players who even struggle to score week in week out at club level like stedman, moore and goudie
Just a thought ..

Goal scorers
Payne might have tucked one or two away out of 6 chances - we were certainly impressed when he played against us last season ...

If you're so good why aren't you out there?
Oh thats right because you'll never get any where near that level& just live your hockey life as a dream through a website....Sad....very sad....

D - Defendeing starts at the front, not with just the defenders, perhaps better to question the tackling ability of them rather than the back5.

Wonderful - 2of the guys you mentioned, jerome&gumbo, play in midfield week in week out for their respective club sides, the third, steaders plays as a support striker. Exactly how many goals do want from them?
In a game now so revolved around short corners, why would Gumbo score hundreds when clearly his role within his club side is to get corners so Daly can put them away.

Why not back our national side (with or without Asians!!) for once. The lowest ranked side there (i think) & they've managed a draw against Holland!
Good effort fellas.& good luck against our Antipodean Criminal Cousins.

HHH, get over your self.
If you had bothered to read my statement clearly, rather than form opinions in your gung-ho attitude, you would see that my question is clearly justified. I have not laid blame on anyone, only asking who the back 5 were. I also said that lee surely picked his strongest team, highlighting their under performance as a whole, as opposed to singling out players.
Maybe you should take a step back and keep some of your opinions to yourself. Your evidently not in the squad, and are most likely some jumped up runner who wears a badge that doesn't symbolise your actual ability. There are enough over opinionated players in this country at the mo. Let the squad do their talking with results, and why don't you concentrate on your own game.

Like the rest of British coaches you read to many books. Defending comes from any situation and can't always be defended front the front you fool. Your ideals about hockey are the reasons why we fail to have numbers supporting the forwards thus halving the percentage of taking advantage with the ball in the oposition 25. When England get into this position (within the 25) 9 time out of 10 the ball gets played backwards because there is no support. ITS CALLED NEGITIVE HOCKEY and easy to play and defend against.

True. It is indicative of England in nearly every sport. They are scared by the prospect of losing and thus are negative when attacking. If we are to succeed the mentality must change. He who dares...

I heard rumour that a number of the recently retired int's were a bad infulence on the relatively new members in the squad and thought they new better than coach Lee and this was the reason for them leaving. Maybe someone could enlighten us with the truth and expand why so many int's left the international scene in such a short period.

Lee
he cannot deal with people asking him questions, look at kerry, he is getting the best from his experienced players, Lee boots them out, calls them trouble makers alienates everyone.

Sadly for England he is not up to it

I've known Jason lee for many years and sure he is self opinionated and doesn't listen to other peoples views. But he will stand or fall on the results, and unfortunately these have not been good during his spell in charge. The big problem as I see it, is David Faulkner the performance director who has no qualifications for the job and was appointed by his 1988 Olympic buddies who believe like all those that come into contact with him, what a boring old fart he is, and his real lack of knowledge of the mordern game.
