AUSTRALIA has pummelled Germany 6-0 to give itself an outside chance of claiming the four-nation Hamburg Masters men's hockey tournament in Germany.

Midfielder Ben Bishop bagged a double, while Michael McCann, Luke Doerner, Grant Schubert and Brent Livermore all scored as the Olympic champion Kookaburra's rebounded from their first-up 3-1 loss to the Netherlands on Friday.
The Netherlands will claim the Masters title with a win or draw against hosts Germany tomorrow, but may open the door for Australia to snatch the crown with a loss.

The Kookaburras play Pakistan in its final game of the tournament before travelling to the Dutch town of Amstelveen for the eight-nation Rabo Trophy.

McCann opened the scoring against Germany in the third minute before Bishop made it 2-0 close to the break.

Doerner scored from a short corner 10 minutes into the second half and helped Schubert make it 4-0 four minutes later.

Strange! such a good result for Australia and yet no comments from Australian fans. If it were India or Pak, there might have been over 100 comments.

We Indians are a truly democratic and highly expressive people. We're also passionate about many things; hockey being one of them.
:)
I can't speak for the Pakis.
So on behalf of the Aussies; this is a great result and I'm sure the mini-world cup is yours based on such showing.

Germany hasn’t been strong for the last 24 months. Half that (German) Hamburg masters team was under 23... Australia beat a bunch of kids. Hardly worth standing up and raving about!

The world rankings rate Germany at #1... but they are not even close to where Holland or Aust are at. Germany's performances recently have shown the inconstancies of youth. They'll be back though...

I see we also beat Korea 7-1 over night... Good result there!!

Great to see Andrew 'Smitty' Smith back in the team.
