Australia 2 Korea 1
THE Hockeyroos survived a trio of last gasp penalty corner attempts to defeat Korea take a 2-0 lead in their six-match series in Adelaide tonight.
The Australians were hesitant early and conceded the first goal to Kim Mi Seon as early as the fourth minute.
But they equalised in the 28th minute through Sian Smithson and then took the lead in the 55th minute after a strike from skipper Nikki Hudson.
With a minute remaining at the end Australia scrambled away each of the visitors' three penalty corner attempts, to take the match and maintain their unbeaten run.
Seon's strike from close range was her third goal in the series and the Australians will be keen to stiffle her progress with still four matches to come
The visitors threatened to increase their lead forcing five penalty corners but were prevented by `keeper Deanne Gilbert.
The Australians created few opportunities and it came as a surprise when Korea's defence was split by an enterprising run through the middle from Hudson.
Smithson was on hand to finish the move with her first international goal and at 1-1 the home side was in the game.
They showed an increased level of purpose after the break, containing Korea's attacks and venturing deeper with their own.
Several chances were created and the Koreans lapsed under the pressure, turning the ball over in defence after 55 minutes.
The ball was flicked to Hudson who coolly slotted a hard low shot past Korean captain keeper Lim Ju Young from the top of the penalty circle.
