NIGEL DUNCAN

SCOTLAND hockey players will seeking revenge when they square-up to Wales in a Test double header this weekend.

The tartan side suffered a shock defeat to the men from the Principality in the Celtic Cup and are desperate for some final match practice ahead of the European Championships in Leipzig later this month.

Coach Mathias Ahrens will field his strongest side and team manager Eugene Connolly said: "All the injury niggles have been ironed out and the squad are coming into form at the right time.

"The best example of that is former Olympic squad player David Mitchell, who has been short on hockey due to work commitments but is now performing as we know he can. The matches against Wales are crucial to the squad ahead of Leipzig. We'll be using this opportunity to try out one of the systems that we first tried against Germany recently.

"And we are giving ourselves two or three options for the Europeans, to meet the different styles of play we will face there."

Wales also travel to Lepizig looking for promotion from B Division while the Scots want a top-six finish in the A Division to ensure a place in next year's World Cup Qualifiers.

I heard that Mike Leonard was in hospital after taking a ball full in the face against Wales. Can anyone shed any light on the situation? Will he still be available for the Europeans? Anyway, just wanted to say I hope he's ok.
