AUSTRALIA has snatched a last minute 3-2 win over Korea in the first encounter of their six game series at the Distinctive Homes Arena in Adelaide tonight.

The Hockeyroos surrendered their two goal lead early in the second half but reclaimed the lead with just 20 seconds remaining through Angie Skirving's low, clean penalty corner shot, won by an attack from Wendy Alcorn and captain Nikki Hudson moments earlier.

Australia had started well on a wet, chilly night but was well contained Korea until the dying moments.

Korea won the first penalty corner of the game but it was Hockeyroos captain Hudson who opened the scoring, scrambling one home in the penalty area after eight minutes for her 60th international goal.

The home side doubled its lead 10 minutes later when Donna-Lee Patrick won the ball near goal and pushed a high flick past the right hand of Korean keeper captain Lim Ju Young.

Things deteriorated further for Korea when Kim Jung A took the full force of a deflection in the chest and was substituted after 29 minutes.

Despite this setback, the Koreans had a series of chances nearing half time, and looked likely to be denied until an Australian defensive turnover exposed the goal to Kim Mi Seon, who rammed the ball home and gave the visitors some reward for their 22-13 penalty circle penetration advantage.

They equalised 12 minutes into the second period, Seon firing her second goal past South Australian debutant keeper Deanne Gilbert when a cross was deflected into her path.

A draw looked the likely result until the final minute.
