Relations between Hong Kong and Macau hockey Associations sank further recently, with Hong Kong withdrawing from a Macau AHF sanctioned tournament, which is sanctioned by FIH also.

Macau Hockey President, Frederico Nolasco expressed his disappointment saying, “what better preparation would Hong Kong get for the East Asian Games in Macau, and All China Games, in September”? The Tournament runs from 6-14 August at Macau’s Taipa Hockey Stadium.

Billy Dillon from HKHA explained that, “we simply do not have the players available, with the likes of Arif Ali and Akbar Ali playing in the Malaysian Hockey League. We are amateurs and the other teams are full time hockey players. Hong Kong has also accepted an invitation to participate in the first Samsung Cup, to be held in Singapore 25-28 August, which features the likes of Malaysia and Korea”.

Hong Kong has not played an international match in nearly 2 years, and Hong Kong coach, Kevin Knapp will surely wants as much match practice before the East Asian Games, starting in Macau on 29 October.

Hong Kong will be again forced to send a 3rd string side to the 2005 All China Games, with the “ethnic Chinese” player rule, still being enforced by the Hong Kong Sports Development Board. This is despite China Hockey’s request, wanting Hong Kong to send its “best team”.

The Macau International Tournament starts at 400pm on Saturday, and features top sides like 2000 Olympic silver Medalists Korea, along with Japan and China. This Sunday will see an interesting clash between the fast improving Taiwan side, and Global rivals China, which will be the first match between the two teams in over 15 years.

With the Asian Games being held in Doha Qatar 2006, FIH will be thrilled that an Arab side, like Oman, is attending the event.

The Tournament will be covered by FIH’s World Hockey TV show.

Don't made your judgement so early... this article is politics... HK will go to Guangdong (both mens and ladies), Men team also go to Singapore. So who say HKHA is hopeless. It is better for the overseas team not to see HK play before East Asia Games. This is worth not to go to Macau. Beside, how can our players take so many leave to travel.

I used to live in Macau and Hong Kong.

I see the games are at 800pm and Macau is an 1 hour away!!!!!

....its like saying you can make time to go from one side of Delhi to the other, to get the chance to play in an international tournament!!!

Hiding
HK Support Comment re not being seen is nonsense, you could turn it on its head and say that the players are missing valuable international experience against some very good sides. There is nowhere to hide in international hockey these days and I must agree that for a team like HK all chances to play quality opposition should be grabbed with both hands. Think what you will learn against what you will give up? The balance is weighed heavily in favour of playing. Now if there is another reason they are not going then so be it.

Have you been thinking?

The games is at 8pm which is correct but are yuo telling me this is some league game where you will be just ready by 8? It is an intrenational game you need training and tactical session. If it is so easy Hong Kong woulnd't be going to singapore. It is also very tiring for players to go from hong kong to macau everyday and to singapore straight after and come back and have good preperation for the games. Dude, hong kong isn't proffesional. take things step by step. Whatever simon said wasn't ery supportive either, the all china team is part of the national team, its not 3rd string, rules are rules, if there is an u21 tournament that doesn't mean hong kong is fielding its 4th team. That is very discouraging for the players that train and play hard.

I think you are living in HK not somewhere else and you never played in any international game. Do you think you go there just 5 minutes before the game start...In international game you need to submit the name list 1 hour before the game start. For example, if the game start at 8pm, then the name list must be at the judges table by 7pm and the players need to warm up as well and team talk.
Which means the players need to leave HK very latest by 5.30pm ferry... think about how can most of the players arrive the ferry pier by 5pm if they finishes work at 5 or later.
And do you mean that after every game the players will leave Macau and back to HOng Kong to work the next day....are you that MAD!!

Madness
I must be made to think Hong Kong does not have time to get over the Macau to play 7 other international teams, and use the histerical excuse that they are playing for 1 weekend in Singapore in 3 weeks time, when Singapore are playing in the Macau Tournaments!
...Yeah, I am mad!!! They also said lies when they said they were playing in 4 touraments...

I guess the 1 match playing a provincial side in china is counted at one of them!! Crazy, they can go to guangdong to play one china provincial side, yet not justify going to macau, which is even closer, to play 7 international sides......its obvious HKHA officials are writing these excuses to cover their extreme indequate performance in running the sport over the years....There are not excuses here ....sorry I am right you are wrong...there is always a way, if you have a heart and care about things,

Looking at the draw above, 4 of the days are Saturday and Sundays. i assume HK plays hockey on those days normally and all are available.....only 3 days during the week are they required, and surely not all the players needed to travel over each day...sure seems completely stupid to me HK can't make it to a huge international tournament and matches, one hour away in Macau!!! crazy whatever way you look at it...funny too they are going to Singapore as an excuse, when sigapore are in macao!

Singapore, Macau, China and EAG in Macau again.

from 6th Aug to 6th Nov

In 3 mths time we amatuers have to attend all these events. It's a total of 1 month hockey excluding training. Are you "Raj" gonna pay us for the leaves?

We play for free, we lose our annual leave to hockey. we give up training time to hockey. We even spend our own money to travel to training. So all we HKHA need is some encouragement not stuffs like xxxxxxx

I agree with HK Player that players should/need to be paid, if off work, but its not such a huge expense and every other hk amatuer sport does that, and hkha could get this from lcsd or sponsors...its just they are lazy doing the same job for 20 years, and have no business imagination or drive.....they impose mediocre administration of the sport that leaves it going nowhere.....remember HK was in the Olympics in 1964, and can they ever do it again with this kind of thinking above????????????????????

Even if hkha offer money for the players they still wont be able to get so many holiday a year, 14 days is pretty much a standard, imagine you have a worker like that you wouldn't want him to have no pay leave ever 3 months. Hong Kong is not suitable for proffesional sports at the moment. Players will have to play in the MHL, SFL to play proffesional and this will also lift the standard of hockey. But there's nothing you can do about hte situation at the moment, sports isn't a big thing in hk. You just cant help it.

I think your right in some sense. It's true that players should be paid to play, it's also true that the HKHA have had thier own issues in the past, but it's not as easy as it all sounds typed up in a short message. A large majority of sports in HK have the same problem, and it's not somthing where you can pull the solution out of a hat. Money is not easy to come by, and thats partly because of the overall Hong Kong mentality towards sport.

To be fair there have been some bold moves made by the HKHA as over the last 2 years we have seen the SCPL take shape, we've seen a well qualified coach take control of the national team, these are all positive steps, given time i'm sure as much as i hope things will come togeather.

Reason
The reason why going to Singapore is simple.
1. Coach just came back, again, from Australia.
2. Billy sister-in-law is the President of Singapore Hockey Federation.
3. To avoid losing to Macau in Macau
There is not much people knew there will be a tournament in Macau until there was pressure to HKHA to notify local clubs that there was a tournament. HKHA knew this for months already but they kept quiet. This is why hockey always way behind as compare with our friends in Asia.

Re:Reason
Since you have so many complaints you should go pay and take hk for a tour around the world to play hockey. It is not your choice to decide where to take the team and there doesn't need to be an explanation for you. Time to mind about your own business. HK is the only non-proffesional team in Asia top 8, and they beat bangladesh, learn how to respect the players that is in the national squad. Billy has done a very good job and he doesn't get paid. His sister-in-law maybe presdient of SHA but that may smooth things out quicker and you get 3 games in 3 days, you get the games you want and you dont require a 2 week holiday for the players, i think its excellent. thats like testing the palyers in the team. The coach does however, because this is his job. Therefore he is training the players to get the results, if he doesn't get the results then hkha will do something about it. HKHA might have problems but once again they dont get paid. You guys stop complaining and offer something helpful.

Sad how people think
All this bickering about support and lack of it just goes to show one thing, a lot of those moaners are just that, MOANERS, why don't you go to the HKHA, become a voting member, get yourself involved in hockey at the administration level and then see what happens next. In this day and age of result orientated support, the hkg government won't give an extra dime unless you have become overnight one of the top hockey nations. Very good to compare one thing to another but make sure you have the facts right. I'm sorry but sour grapes don't cut it, if you read the tournament rules in Macau, a) do you think our neighbours to the west will allow Hkg to play all their games at 8 pm, i don't think so, because the time-table is such that every team gets to play at a certain time and are rotated to make if fair. b) Complaining about holidays don't cut it, not like the old days when representing hkg was a matter of pride, nowadays its all business and which boss will not fire you if given the right excuse, i don't know how many times i've heard the comment "If you want to play hockey so badly, quit!" c) Hkg are ranked seventh in asia, as an amateur side that is a fantastic result. d) Get all your facts right, the only reason hkg were in the 1964 Olympics was because another team withdrew, by today's high olympic standards, Hkg wouldn't even qualify. e) The point abt days off, yes Singapore is only a six day (four days if you minus Sat n Sun) tournament, so why miss out on other days, with the East Asian Games coming up in Oct. f) competiting in tournaments is the choice of the coach unless hkha has loads of money we all don't know but i don't think so. g) Stop bickering and name calling, if you have guts and so brave to say Billy or others within the association are doing such a bad job, then come out and say it instead of coming out with figer pointing accusations. By the way, i live in Singapore, am not related to any of the Dillons or anyone within the hkha and after reading all these idiotic comments felt the need to write, former hkg resident.

Thank you to Observer...Let's remember Hk would have only played 7 games, and 4 would have been on weekends. Semi-Amatuer sports in HK, like cricket and rugby, volleyball, pay only $300 a day when players are away, if they apply. LCSD pay also, if NSO apply. HKHA never get around to it.

...and as for our former HK resident....well he obviously has not been to a HKHA agm, where the vote it so riged that the Dillons have been in power for 20 years....why?

More Japan results
For you Mari,

Japan were hard pressed by little Singapore. Japan hold a commanding 15th world ranking compared to Singapore's 50th, a huge gap of 35th ranking places, so here is the report, you may wonder what happened next.

Japan won 5-1 but it took them a lot of effort after Singapore allowed Japan the lead in the 15th minute, then Singapore equalised 10 minutes later for a 1-1 half-time draw. Japan had a fight on their hands for the next 10 minutes upon resumption of play, earning a 2-1 lead and with 10 minutes from time, scored a crucial 3-1 lead from a field goal. Three minutes from time, Singapore conceded two penalty corners which Japan, being the expert, easily converted breaking Singaporean hockey players hearts.
For Japan, this game was their first goal they have conceded in this tournament, they have scored a 24 goals and are, without doubt the top team and favourites for the championship trohpy. Japan next play on the 11th against Chinese Taipei at 18.00, 13th against Korea at 20.00 and 14th against China at 19.00.Take a trip to Macau and support your team. Bye

paying/holidays/work
a few people on this site have talked about HK players and SG players not getting paid and that. My question is why should you deserve to get paid?? Its not like the standard of the tournament is very high.

Most people who succeed actually enjoy what they do and dont do things for the money. If you actually enjoy playing hockey, you would do it without getting paid - the same as you do when you go on holiday and when you go visit bars at night. If you dont enjoy it, dont play.

Just want to ask, it is so difficyult for HK selection to participate ? With a little good sense HK could had participate. But it is HKHA did not wanted to cooperate.Even the last Super Trophy Macau qualified in 2th and should had gone for the 4 best teams knock out, but HKHA changed the rules only to try to prevent Macau to go even far.One question anyone know also why the Macau-HK Interport stopped some years ago ? I know but better ask HKHA why. This kind of cooperation and friendship is not salute.

I was one of the player who played with Macau during the inter-port period. If Antonio is not that kind of lost memories, ask yourself is it fair to play in Macau? Please give your honest feed on Macau umpire and their fans? A players were rounded by Macau fans after a match at the old Macau hockey field. The interport stopped was because HK beat them during the last game by 6-0 and at that time the coach of Macau is our dear Mr. Tayyab, who did some politic and requested the official of Macau to stop the interport. My dear Mr. Antonio Sin, not HK who stopped and lost our cooperation as you stated.
Please be fair to HKHA not just use every way to attack them. Please support the growth of Hong Kong hockey and we need many support as well.
I am not playing hockey any more but still I love to go to King's Park to watch hockey and I knew the rules of Premier League rules was set before the season started but the Macau representative didn't inform to their new coach about the rules and that's the reason why so many negative words came out.
The whole incident was created by Guangdong for their delaying reply of coming down and that's why the fixtures was not confirm!
I beg you to comment positively and be fair.

Macau HKG interport
HKG has not lost to Macau for sometime now even he last match at the AHF cup was a very sound win by the HKG team. I agree that Mr Tayib had a greta deal to do with the interport being stopped HKG won 6-0 nad Mr Tayib was coach and very embarrassed even though HKG only had a part time unqualified coach. I am not sure what Macau are ranked in asia at present but HKG are 7 so the match is of no benefit for HKG. Maybe the HKHA ould agree to play the interport but definetely not under the Macau conditions of neutral umpires there should be no need for this.

Final Positions are as follows:

1. Japan 2. Korea 3. China 4. Singapore 5. Chinese Taipei 6. Oman 7. Macau

Japan bt Korea 3-1 on Thursday night to confirm they were close to winning the title but had to beat China to ensure they were champions, which they did by beating them 4-1. Don't forget Japan came with their strongest squad, a full national side while Korea were with a mix side of current, former and 11 youth internationals, fresh from the Rotterdam Junior World Cup.

But ofcourse in HK must better than Macau.
In Macau hv good Coaches from Pakistan and India, they are professional!
But so sad!!!

Why Macau do not hv new generation?
I saw a lot old players come back to the team but no fisical condition!
So Bad.
Also during tournament no Macau Umpire?
Hong Kong and Macau Association also do not hv local international umpire and coaches (new generation)!

Your comment on Macau was right in some way
but on the other hand, macua also face problem on working, most of the playing working non-office hour, the new coach came 2 years but Mr. Tayyab there already over 10 years with ZERO on girls development, no second team and this poor indian coach face all the bullets.
Think something about macau & hk, macau got Tayyab, FIH top development man, HK we got Billy, Sarinder, John, Tony, Deric, Brenda all FIH/AHF people, think what happen to this 2 places hockey.
You go to www.fihockey.org zero report on macau tournament while AHF holds meeting there during the tournament, ZERO again. FIH or AHF only care about who got top class players never think about 3rd countries.
There are people here say we talk too much complain too much... but we have no other way to express our love of hockey and this is a good place to share something never report. I still play hockey and i love this sport even only one team play against my. I still gonna play.

Asia Hockey in Problem
During the Macau Tournament we found the devolopment is same in HK! (Very Bad)
But really HK must a littel better than Macau!
Why HKHA do not send B team to Macau for this kind of High level tournament?
In this moment very difficult to find the same torunament!
FIH or AHF never considerate in 3 rd countries! SO SAD!
I know in Macau Mr. Tayab (Pakistan) was the coach who take care for Coaching Course but unlucky so far very few asia coaches (new generation) in the high level, means FIH Grade I or FIH Coach.
In HK hv a lot coaches but no one oportunity to take the places! maybe in Macau also.
Wht I know some big tournament always FHI or AHF make the Final coaching course or others course but why in Macau they do not do it?
We lost the oportunity!!!
FIH and AHF was problem. is it?
HK and Macau always hv problem!
Pakistan and India also!
Germany and Nertheland same!
Korea and Japan same!
Maybe very near in each other! Very funny to compared!
FHI and AHF the members was in Macau. All the members was happy to watch the tournament but you know wht we want coaching course and umpiring course.
HKHA we always ask to talk with FIH and AHF to find the course!
The answer from HKHA:
We always ask but the FHI and AHF no time and never considerate in lower country!
HKHA is it lie?
During 10 year we HK or Macau suffer alot Development in Coaching or umpiring!
The time will past we become older and never come back to the hockey field!
HK and Macau hockey will finish - no players!

HK and Macau situation - A LOT PROBLEM!!!

Consideration in Hockey
HKHA & Macau H. A. never considerate in Players!
They do not want to gave a littel extra money.
Please both Association not fare for players they suffer alot for stop working transport (MTR) dinner and others things.
Some players maybe after the working should be in the field but no extra money!
All the association before make the tournament or knows to same ware to go need to send the budget for gorvenment is it correct?
Why the association don't put the extra money for them?
I mean in the local place.
I know if the Association send the players to go out ofcourse they given for players!

HK - Billy Dillon wht he said is wrong!

Very easy: change the players.
We want play the tournament only!
Billy Dillon alwyas have excuse!
Macau gave the hotel, meals and transportation. Just HKHA find the sponsorship for Ferry ticket enough!
If we participating in Macau Tournament we can play with Singapore team after that we can meet again in Singapore!
HKHA can mix the players and we can find more players for two tournament!
Macau only a few money (just ticket) Singapore diferent!
Can be 2 place two diferent players.
In HK we can find more players and make a lot fun and oportunity HK hockey must better!

Hockey
Singapore
Playing in the Singapore tournament is a good thing, as HK needs as much match-play at the top level as possible. The Dillons connection with Singapore is a good thing too.
I agree with Singapore!
Much match-play at the top level as possibel.
And why Billy don't send the team?
I think only bought a ticket and we get result!
Result means more chance to take part in tournament.
We can select 2 teams.
We can compare with China National Team we can bit China!

May be you are friend of Tayyab, answer my question (please)?
1. Were Tayyab the coach when HK beat Macau 6-0?
2. Did he improve the playing standard or he only want to find a place to sattle down?
3. Any ladies, school teams playing hockey since you said he is a great coach?
4. Why he didn't develop hockey in Macau and now Macau have problem?
5. Did you know why not many people/coaches attended Mr. Tayyab coaching course in HK 2 year ago?
Sir, we need to change all the official in HKHA including the President who only just talking.... then HK hockey will have a chance to improve.
For those of you who always asked why we don't have improvement on coaching and umpire, very simple.... no one bother!!
Now we have 2 coaching developing by Mr. Dillon..first one is his son Guv and second is Arif because they doing hockey sticks business so 3 in one. Good combination. If they coach, they sell sticks. THIS IS HK HOCKEY!!

If you wanna share a piece....
Stop talking or posting ..... actively particepate. Initiate changes, make suggestions using the right channels. Challenge with knowledge, information evidents & facts. Stop asking why. I'm not a Dillon or Arif Fan. I used to be a hockey player for Shaheen from 1982 to the late 90s'. I did not care about the HKHA. All I cared about is the show that I put on for the fully packed Sunday crowd. I wish I'm still in HK because Now that I cannot play, I would step up and vote. This is the primary responsibility for any club or it's members to voice out changes, rules, agreements and appreciation.

If the Dillons and Arif are taking advantages on HKHA, I'd have to say they deserve that because they are the ones who are really devoting time. Whether it's quality is benefitial to HK hockey? The guys earned your hatred and jealousy.

I hope HK can beat Japan at least for 1 time which we came close too in the 80's by losing 2-1. Wish HK all the best.

Tayyab is a strong person in FIH.
He was a person incharge in Coaching Course in the world!
Why FIH want him in the Coaching Committe?
He coming from Pakistan.
