Annadale defender Andrew McBride has been named in Scotland's squad for the European Nations Championship in Germany later this month.

The Ballynahinch lad, of course, had opted for Scotland through residency after staying on and playing with Grange after his university days.

He was part of the Scottish team who secured their Division A status in Barcelona two years ago and has remained an integral part of their set-up despite returning to Northern Ireland where he joined Vi-Sport Premier League champions Annadale last season.

Thirteen members of the side played in Barcelona but several fresh faces have been added to add impetus to their challenge.

The Scots have a tough task in Leipzig as they face the hosts - reigning world and European champions - England and Belgium in their pool games.

They must secure a top-six finish to make the World Cup qualifier in China next year, a competition which Ireland are hoping to make too.

The Irish must win the European Nations Trophy - in effect the B Division - in Rome from September 11 to September 18 to make the China showpiece.

Irish coach Dave Passmore will cut his training squad to 22 later this week and then name the final 18 in the middle of the month.
