Scotland's senior women ended their three-match weekend series against Belgium at Inverclyde with another clean sheet yesterday, this time winning 3-0, to conclude their focus on defence ahead of the games against Germany and England in the European Nations Cup in Dublin in two weeks.
While packing the 'half-court zone' with defensive players, they depended heavily on the counter-attack. That was supplied by Rhona Simpson, who took her tally from the three games to five with two more typically opportunistic first-half strikes, and Aimee Clark, whose spectacular diving goal was the highlight of the second half.
Scotland's U21 women found life much tougher against England in Manchester. After losing 6-1 and 7-1, yesterday's final match brought a 3-0 defeat. Although it was a better performance by the Scots, they still have much to learn ahead of the Junior World Cup in Chile next month. Next week, they play Germany in an attempt to make the grade.
