The manager of the Indian hockey team which participated in the recently concluded junior World Cup at Rotterdam today strongly denied allegations that seven of the players who participated in the championship were overage.

The charges levelled by senior vice-president of Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) Narinder Batra are "baseless, motivated and detrimental to the interest of Indian hockey", Pratap Satpathy, who accompanied the team as its manager, said in a statement here.

Batra had alleged on Saturday last that seven players in the team were over the maximum age limit for the mega event.

Satpathy, who is also joint secretary of the IHF, asserted that not a single player who represented the country in the tournament was above the age of 21 years.

The age of the players were verified by the FIH from the passports of the players, he said adding all the players had obtained their passports much before their selection in the Indian squad.

Their dates of birth had been recorded in the passport on the basis of their high school certificates and other documents and the check and control method adopted by the External Affairs Ministry were beyond doubt, Satpathy said. PTI

IHF STOOGE SATPATHY
WHAT ELSE CAN YOU EXPECT FROM THE EVER GRATEFUL IHF STOOGE SATPATHY. HIS REWARD FOR HIS LOYALTY DURING THE IHF AGM IN JANUARY AT HYDERABAD WAS THE TEAM MANAGER'S POST. I WAS AT HYDERABAD AND SAW HIS EFFORTS TO BREAK THE EFFORTS OF KRISHNAMURTHY TO PULL UP THE IHF FOR ACCOUNTING TRANSPERENCY. HE WAS THE GO BETWEEN TRYING TO PATCH UP BETWEEN JK AND KRIS. OFCOUSE HE FAILED WITH KRIS BUT SUCCEEDED BY OPPOSING THE ATTACK ON " OUR BELOVED PRESIDENT GILL". QUOTED FROM HIS WORDS AT THE AGM IN JANUARY.

I CHALLENGE HIM TO RESIGN FROM ANY POST CONCERNED WITH HOCKEY IF I PROOVE THE OVERAGE OF EVEN ONE PLAYER IN THIS JWC. THERE ARE DOCUMENTS AVAILABLE.

SATPATHY ARE YOU ACCEPTING THIS CHALLENGE. I KNOW YOU READ THIS ARTICLES.

NO LOGIC
SATPATHY'S CLAIM THAT THE PASSPORTS WERE VERIFIED BY THE FIH AND THAT THE PASSPORTS WERE MADE MUCH BEFORE THEIR SELECTION TO THE INDIAN SQUAD MAKES NO LOGIC TO JUSTIFY LACK OF AGE TAMPERING BY HOCKEY PLAYERS. AFTER ALL FIH CAN ONLY VERIFY THE PASSPORTS. THE ISSUE INVOLVED IS THAT THE PASSPORTS ARE MADE GIVING FALSE AGE PROOF AT THE TIME OF APPLYING BY THESE PLAYERS. WE NEED NOT PITY THEM AS THEY ARE FULLY AWARE THAT THEY ARE REDUCING THEIR AGES FOR THEIR PERSONAL BENEFIT OF PLAYING IN A CATEGORY BELOW THEIR ACTUAL AGE. PASSPORTS ARE SOMETIMES MADE IN ADVANCE KEEPING IN MIND THIS ANGLE.

THE COACH SAID 4 TO 5 PLAYERS IN THE SQUAD ARE UNDER 17 AND THE MANAGER SAYS ALL ARE GENUINELY UNDER 21. WELL A MOVE HAS BEGUN AND A LOT OF FOCUS IS ON THIS ISSUE. I HOPE THE PRESS PUTS PRESURRE ON BATRA TO PROOVE HIS ALLEGATIONS AND THEN I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR FROM THE COACH AND MANAGER. I CAN ALREADY IMAGINE THEIR REPLY --- "TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE AT THAT TIME I BELEIVED THE AGES GIVEN BY THE PLAYERS, BUT NOW I AGREE THEY HAVE CHEATED ALL OF US."

I HOPE ALL THIS WILL NOT BE SWEPT UNDER THE CARPET. HOW IS IT BOTH GILL AND JOTHI HAVE MADE NO COMMENTS EVEN AFTER 3 DAYS OF BATRA'S ACCUSATIONS.

NO FIRE NO SMOKE.

Who are going to fix
Hi LAD,

Nice to read your all comments in forum. I agree with you on all your comments. U and all hockey lovers know that poor Junior players are traped in this scandle.

We know the reason why players did this. There are many reason other than force by IHF. like I meat one player (Not from nation side) he said he has to do such things other wise their skills are never gonna catch by selectors they put their 100% but they will get no result. He is near 19 or 20 at that time and used to play in junior compitations like under 18. He said only urinal and born test can catch the false. its sad to hear his story.

What is the future of Hockey in India.

Curtains for Jugraj
At this moment its NO for Jugraj to make it back in the National team. However after his recent medical examination in the US he has been advised complete rest for the moment. With the removal of the steel rod, he will be lucky if he is able to play even 60% of what we saw in 1993. However he'll be around in the PHL in December for sure. Happy recovery to him.

Age tampering
Age tampering by the players will continue, unless IHF and State Hockey Fedrations start giving harsh panelties to players and coaches who do tampering. And it is not fare where you are competing against a player that is 3-5 years older and overage.

Can you believe coaches telling you, for not making 1985 JWC team (age 19.5) that you should change passport so can play next world cup. (Goginder Gindi (railways) & K S Bhangu (NIS Patiala) were 2 of the coaches, but there were others too). !@#$(
