SCOTLAND's men's hockey side square up to France at Peffermill tonight (7.30pm) determined to show that the 6-2 scoreline in their Celtic Cup opener was not a true reflection.
Scotland, ranked No.7 in Europe, shot themselves in the foot in a mistake-ridden performance against the French who are ranked one place above them.
Yesterday's 3-0 victory over Ireland thanks to goals from David Ralph (Loughborough), Stephen
Dick (Inverleith) and Niall Stott (Wanderers) was Scotland's only win in the competition.
They also lost 3-2 to Wales on Saturday, but coach Mathias Ahrens is not pressing the panic button with the European Championships in his native Germany due at the end of next month.
The Celtic Cup was only a stepping-stone to Europe as are the matches again France tonight and at Meadowmill tomorrow.
Scotland finished third out of four in the Celtic Cup with France taking the title with Wales second and Ireland fourth.
Deans is also manager of Scotland's women, who came second, Ireland taking the silverware with Wales third and France fourth.
