THE Fiji men and women's hockey teams will have a solid build up to the Oceania qualifiers for the World Cup in November.

The sides have been preparing for a five- match series against the New Zealand University council selection side in Suva next month.

Fiji Hockey Federation national men's coach Kevin Fraser said the NZ team's itinerary includes three matche against the national teams and the other two matches would be against Fiji A and the Fiji U23.

Fraser said the five matches and participation at the Arafura Games had been a good build up for Fiji as they prepared to host Australia and New Zealand in the World Cup qualifiers in Novemver.

"Last Sunday was the first of two trials to pick a large squad to accommodate players in the Fiji A and national sides," he said.

"Selectors were pleased with the standard, the final trial is on July 31.

"We will meet with Oceania representatives in Suva this week to finalise details.

"We will play two of the region's toughest teams later this year. Australia is the Olympic champ and just imagine they will be here in the country later in the year to play our boys."

Fraser said this weekend would see the Valerie Davit top eight interclub take on each other at the National Hockey centre.
